HukariAscendent is a Women-Owned, Small Business specializing in comprehensive engineering and technical support services associated with commercial nuclear power and other Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear activities.Job Title: Senior Soil ScientistDuration: FY27 (Part-Time)Location: Remote – with two 3-day trips and five 2-day trips to project sitesShort Summary about Job:This position provides senior subject matter expert support for the Applied Studies and Technology (AS&T) program and the Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRCA) program. Work focuses on characterization of soil change processes and sub-surface erosion in engineered waste covers, critical analyses of engineered soil and erosion risk documents, field oversight and direction of soil sampling, and flume studies. The role requires extensive collaboration with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and research universities. This is a highly complex role requiring deep expertise in engineered soils performance, erosion risk assessment, reclamation and decommissioning.Required QualificationsMust be a US CitizenPhD in Soils Engineering or Earth Science, OR minimum 15 years of experience in engineered soils performance studies and evaluationsDemonstrated expertise in UMTRCA cover performance evaluation, including lead authorship of performance evaluation documentsThorough working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 40 Appendix A, 40 CFR Part 192, NUREG-1623, and NUREG/CR-729Experience as technical lead on projects in collaboration with NRC, national laboratories, and research universities on engineered soils performance evaluationMinimum of one co-authored NRC regulatory guidance document (NUREG series) resulting from such collaborationPreferred QualificationsDirect field investigation familiarity with a minimum of ten UMTRCA disposal cells across multiple states, including Principal Investigator responsibilityDemonstrated experience developing integrated, multi-component, science-driven risk management frameworks for DOE agency operationsDemonstrated capacity serving as an independent technical resource for DOE-LM, DOE-EM, NRC, and other federal, state, and tribal stakeholdersDOE Rad Worker II trainingHukariAscendent offers an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid time off.Opportunities with HukariAscendent change frequently.
