SUMMARY The City ofChicopee\'s DPW Forestry Department is looking to hire a Heavy MotorEquipment Operator This position operates and maintains all types ofheavy equipment/vehicles owned by the City of Chicopee. Maintains fluidlevels and greases equipment as required. Work is performed under thesupervisor of the City Arborist who assigns work and areas ofresponsibility. This is a 40 hour work week position with mandatoryovertime and emergency response. ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE: Operate logtruck and other heavy equipment. Crew leader as needed. Assists with theremoval and pruning of city trees. Operates all equipment used inForestry operations. Assists with maintaining city tree nursery. Assistswith the planting, transplanting, and establishment of trees, bushes,and shrubs. Responsible for the safe and proficient operation of allForestry Department equipment and techniques. Responsible formaintenance of Forestry Department equipment. Assists with the care ofall city trees as pertaining to arboricultural standards and the PublicShade Tree Laws. Performs aerial work to assists with tasks such asChristmas light installation and aerial inspections of publicfacilities. Enforces safety regulations and city policies at all times.Maintains communication with supervisors, subordinates, and the generalpublic. Participates in continuing education to maintain ce1iificationsand licenses. Participates in all facets of snow operations. Maintainssafety standards for employees and public in regards to ForestryDepartment operations. Must be available for overtime, especially duringweather emergencies. All other related tasks as assigned by the CityArborist and/or Superintendent of Public Works. Abide by City ofChicopee Health And Safety Policies And Procedures. QUALIFICATIONSComprehensive knowledge of State, Federal, municipal policies andregulations as they relate to arboriculture. Working knowledge andproficiency in the operation of all equipment used in ForestryDepartment operations. Working knowledge and proficiency in riggingequipment and techniques. Skilled position requiring physical abilityand supervisory skills. Ability to work effectively in emergencies.Ability to interpret plans and specifications. Ability to workindependently. Knowledge of and experience in performing a variety ofsemi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks. Working knowledge of awide-variety of hand tools, air tools and hydraulic tools. Ability tofollow oral and written instructions.
