Job Description:Job Description: Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) TeacherReports To: Building PrincipalTerms of Employment: 9 months; salary and work year determined by the Board of Education.Position PurposeThe FACS Teacher assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in the Family and Consumer Sciences discipline. The role involves supervising students in a supportive climate to ensure they meet or exceed State Core Curriculum Content Standards. This position requires collaboration with school staff and parents to achieve academic excellence.QualificationsIn accordance with Topeka Public Schools and Kansas Department of Education standards, candidates must meet the following criteria:Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.Certification: Valid Kansas Teacher's Certificate (applicable area-level endorsements preferred).Preferred: ESOL Endorsement.Experience: Professional verification of successful classroom performance or student teaching.Compliance: Ability to comply with ethical and professional standards established by the State Board of Education.Attendance: Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this role.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDevelopmental Knowledge: Deep understanding of child development and the characteristics of the assigned age group.Instructional Expertise: Knowledge of prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and varied teaching methods to address diverse learning styles.Technical Proficiency: Basic understanding of current educational technology.Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and peers.Classroom Management: Ability to maintain supervision to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.Analytical Skills: Ability to assess achievement levels, analyze results, and prescribe actions for improvement.Performance ResponsibilitiesInstruction and CurriculumTeach concepts in foods and nutrition, clothing and textiles, home management, family relationships, and consumer education.Organize class activities so preparation, instruction, and clean-up occur within allotted timeframes.Demonstrate techniques and prepare instructional aids/displays to enhance learning.Instruct pupils in the safe operation and care of equipment and appliances.Incorporate district-adopted curriculum and research-based instructional practices.Model higher-order thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and flexibility.Assessment and Student GrowthIntegrate informal and formal assessments into instruction to drive decision-making.Assist students in developing self-assessment skills and make them aware of learner expectations.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress.Environment and ProfessionalismCreate a positive, inviting, and safe learning environment.Apply consistent expectations for behavior with appropriate consequences and conflict resolution.Treat students, patrons, and colleagues with dignity and respect while maintaining strict confidentiality.Support the District's educational mission and implement Board regulations fairly.Oversee assigned budgets and select instructional materials.Physical and Emotional RequirementsPhysical Activity: Frequent walking, sitting, standing, and reaching. Occasional lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds.Vision: Requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.Adaptability: Must meet demands from several people simultaneously and handle the work output of others.Schedule: Occasional extended hours may be required.EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy regarding certified professional employees.You are navigating off of REAP site to the district's posting.OK
