SQL Database Administrator (DBA)Location: 100% On-Site (Norfolk Naval Base)Clearance: Active Secret Clearance (Required)Work Domain: Navy Fleet Readiness and Homeland SecurityJob OverviewWe are seeking a senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support Navy Fleet Readiness and Homeland Security. In this role, you will manage, maintain, and optimize MS SQL Servers in a secure government environment, ensuring high availability (99.99%), strict Information Assurance (IA) compliance, Zero Trust alignment, and robust backup/recovery operations.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & Maintenance: Manage all MS SQL services to ensure peak performance ($>99.99\%$ uptime). Configure daily backups and perform monthly restore verifications to ensure zero data loss.Security & Compliance: Maintain server security postures. Ensure strict compliance with IA policies, STIGs, IAVA standards, and DoD Zero Trust architecture. Assist with Certification & Accreditation (C&A) submissions.Performance Tuning & Optimization: Audit, baseline, troubleshoot, and optimize slow-performing databases. Ensure Transact-SQL code is optimized, efficient, and bug-free (including index tuning and custom statistics).BI & Development Support: Develop and maintain Analysis Services (DAX, OLAP/MOLAP), SQL Reporting Services (SSRS), Data Transformation Services, Availability Groups, clustering, and SQL Agent jobs. Conduct pre-production code reviews for programmers and analysts.Operations & Cloud Support: Support monthly Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs) and emergent outages. Oversee cloud service providers, cloud infrastructure data migrations, and database application design.Reporting & Planning: Develop Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs) for all projects. Document database changes and report system health, malfunctions, and future capacity needs directly to the government lead.Job RequirementsExperience & EducationExperience: Minimum 8 years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA, including in-depth experience in database theory, design, planning, implementation, and programming.Education: * Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering OR * Associate Degree in Computer Science + 2 additional years of relevant experience.Core Technical Skills:Minimum 6 years of experience with Transact-SQL (T-SQL) and PowerShell.Minimum 4 years of experience with Windows O/S, distributed computing architecture (client networking, SAN, and virtualization via Hyper-V/VMware).Direct experience in Microsoft .NET programming (C# or VB.NET).Certifications & ClearanceSecurity Clearance: Must possess an active Secret Clearance.DoD 8570 Baseline Certification: IAT Level II certification (typically CompTIA Security+ CE).Microsoft Certification: MCSE: Data Platform or MCSE: Data Management and Analytics (must align with a current, Microsoft-published certification path).
