The teacher supervises, monitors, and evaluates students while developing lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met. Employee performs school-based work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal.

Place of WorkThe normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresAdhere to the North Carolina Professional Teaching StandardsAssist school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure. Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just mannerCreate a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all studentsPlan and implement a program of study in the assigned content area that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of assigned studentsInstruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methodsCreate a classroom environment that provides for student engagement in the learning process and enables students to achieve learning objectivesGuide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in accordance with goals established by the district and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicates these objectives to studentsEstablish learning objectives based on student needs, requirements of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), Standard Course of Study, and district curriculum frameworkPrepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon requestDiagnose the learning challenges of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of central office staff as required. Maintain accurate records as required for Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and 504 PlansProvide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students including students with disabilities and limited English proficienciesPrepare materials and classrooms for class activities. Provide a variety of materials for children to explore, manipulate, and use in learning activities and in imaginative playEncourage students to explore learning opportunities and persevere through challengesUse appropriate techniques and strategies which promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking capabilities of studentsPrepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess students' progressAssign and grade classwork and homeworkAct as test administrator for the North Carolina Test Program and fulfills requirements as designated in the North Carolina School Test Coordinator's Handbook, the Proctor's Guide for the North Carolina Testing Program and the North Carolina State Board of Education Policy GCS-A-010Observe and assess students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical needs on a regular basisMeet with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, determine priorities and resource needs, and encourage parent involvement. Confer with parents/guardians, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic challengesPrepare and implement enrichment programs and remediationAttend Professional Learning Community (PLC) and staff meetings for data analysis and instructional planningParticipate in professional development focused on the acquiring and improving skills and knowledgePerform safety functions/drills to maintain a safe instructional environment. Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitiesPerform related work as assigned or required

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree requiredValid NC Teaching certification or eligible for NC Teaching certification in assigned areaEquivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Work often requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights and rarely, the lifting of weights above 30 pounds
Work regularly requires the exchange of accurate and detailed information through verbal and written communication
Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment
The work is usually sedentary but requires standing and walking around the classroom and school. Requires ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work
Ability to move to other work locations
Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications
Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating standard office equipment, and use of advanced technology
Work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions
The work occasionally handles/works with biohazards and/or risks for potential job-related injury
Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g., business office, light traffic)

Must be adaptable to performing under mild to high levels of stress
