This role plays a critical part in promoting academic growth, social-emotional support, and a positive summer learning experience. The paraeducator will work closely with the classroom teacher to assist with instruction, student engagement, and program logistics.Key Responsibilities:Meaningful Relationships:Build strong, respectful relationships with students through positive and consistent interactions.Work collaboratively with teachers, families, and staff to support student growth and success.Serve as a role model for respectful communication and community values.Engaged Learners:Support students in small groups and one-on-one settings with targeted instruction in ELA and Math aligned to Washington State Learning Standards.Assist students in staying focused, completing activities, and engaging in enrichment learning experiences.Encourage curiosity, persistence, and joyful participation in summer learning.Adaptive PathwaysDeliver interventions and scaffolded support to meet students' individual academic and behavioral needs.Track student progress and share observations with the teacher for planning and reflection.Use instructional technology and learning tools to adapt instruction as needed.Adaptive Pathways:Deliver scaffolded academic and behavioral supports tailored to individual student needs.Observe, document, and communicate student progress to guide instructional decision-making.Utilize instructional technology and learning platforms to personalize learning experiences.Community Connections:Ensure smooth transitions during student arrival and dismissal, fostering safety and consistency.Promote a culture of inclusion, belonging, and mutual respect within the classroom and broader community.Contribute to a welcoming and supportive environment that reflects the values of the Hoquiam community.Essential DutiesQualifications:Experience working with elementary-aged students (grades K-5).Background in delivering academic support in ELA and Math.Effective behavior management and supervision skills.Familiarity with Google Suite and digital learning tools.Strong communication, organization, and collaboration abilities.Valid First Aid/CPR Certification and Washington State Driver's License.Ability to relate to and support students from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing poverty.Must pass an FBI fingerprint background check and meet employment eligibility requirements.Working Conditions:Walking or moving about in a classroom setting to provide individual instructionSitting for an estimated one hour and thirty minutes to provide concentrated individual or small group instructionTwisting upper torso and neck constantly when observing, supervising and monitoring studentsCapable of stooping/bending, squatting and kneeling when providing instructions to studentsLift and carry objects weighing 0-10 pounds constantly, 11-24 pounds occasionally and rarely 25-50 pounds.May need to assist students in self-help skills or attend to physical needs of studentsMust have the ability to reach, grasp and handle objects using the upper extremitiesMust possess higher than average reading, writing and mathematical skillsSpecialized staff should be capable of operating automobileSalary: Per CBA/Per DiemEmployment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
