Project Manager (Tax & Regulatory Compliance)

Our client is seeking a Project Manger to supports their strategic objective to focus the energy and resources of its 3 million members toward the promotion of public education by providing high-level financial analysis, accounting, and tax and regulatory compliance expertise in support of the Business and Financial Services Department.Responsibilities:Prepare and file the annual Department of Labor Form LM-2 in compliance with the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA). Maintain cash-basis accounting records and reconcile multiple schedules based on cash receipts andPrepare detailed schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for CPA firm to complete federal tax filings for multiple entities. Ensure compliance with IRS regulations governing tax-exempt organizations and unrelated business.Prepare the annual DC Income and Expense Report, including schedules of real property income and Prepare and submit DC corporation franchise tax filings (DC-20), as applicable.Manage monthly sales and use tax filings across applicable state and local jurisdictions. Apply correct tax rates, exemptions, and reporting standards in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.Coordinate and file unclaimed property reports for multiple state jurisdictions and the District of Columbia, including due diligence requirements and annual.Maintain organized documentation to support audits, regulatory inquiries, and internal Monitor filing deadlines and ensure ongoing compliance with changing regulations.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills is obtained.Minimum of five years progressively responsible professional accounting and financial management experience.Experience must include tax and regulatory compliance, as well as hands-on experience with filings such as IRS Form 990, LM-2, Sales and Use Tax, and Partnership Tax Returns (Form 1065).Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant, or Institute of Internal Audit designation with experience in auditing and tax preparation.Advanced experience and technical expertise with state-of-the-art financial management systems, such as PeopleSoft, SAP, or Oracle.Must be able to work extended hours on evenings and weekends.Samples of work products (i.e., financial statements, spreadsheets, or presentation materials) may be required at the time of the interview.Demonstrated experience as a Controller or Financial Analyst adhering to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and federal, state, and local requirements.Proven skill in identifying and addressing regulatory and compliance issues, preparing for and managing financial audits, analyzing financial statements, and using advanced spreadsheet applications (preferably Excel).Proven skill in diversified accounting and the ability to perform a full range of accounting and financial responsibilities, such as general ledger, accounts payable, account analysis, bank reconciliation, cash flow management, forecasting, and preparation of financial statements.Proven ability in investigating financial records, writing reports, and resolving complex problems.Experience making presentations to senior management and providing training or support to staff on tax and regulatory requirements as needed.Accreditation with the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants or similar organizations.Experience in interpreting and applying the rules and regulations related to completing the IRS Form 990, 5500, and DOL Form LM2.Highly effective analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness in handling multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions.Ability to work independently and collaboratively amongst individuals and groups at all levels of the organization (e.g., user and systems departments).Skill in developing financial training and presentations using applicable financial software.
