Lead Structural Steel Welder/Fabricator
Fabco is a fast‑growing welding and fabrication company serving the commercial and multifamily construction industry in Portland and the surrounding areas. We’re currently seeking an experienced Lead Structural Steel Welder/Fabricator with strong structural welding skills and the ability to perform high‑quality field welds. This role provides hands‑on leadership within both shop and field operations.
Position Objective
The Lead Structural Steel Welder/Fabricator oversees and performs a wide range of structural steel fabrication and welding projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency. This role provides technical expertise, mentorship, and daily leadership for the structural welding team.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and support structural steel fabrication and manufacturing operations
Perform high‑quality structural welds (including FCAW, SMAW, and other processes as applicable)
Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural steel components per drawings and specifications
Accurately cut, prep, clean, and fit steel parts for welding
Provide hands‑on training and technical guidance to junior welders and fabricators
Assign tasks, monitor workflow, and support production schedules
Conduct quality checks, verify measurements, and maintain documentation
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Troubleshoot and complete basic maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment
Ensure strict adherence to Fabco’s quality and safety standards
Complete field welding and field adjustments on structural steel installations
Collaborate with supervisors and project managers to solve fabrication challenges
Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of structural steel welding and fabrication experience
Proven leadership or mentoring experience strongly preferred
Proficiency reading blueprints, structural drawings, and fabrication details
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
