Transformer Technician - Oil Processing
We’re looking for Transformer Technician - Oil Processing candidates who are primarily responsible for cleaning, filtering, dehydrating, and degassing transformer oil to ensure transformers operate safely and reliably. They would operate specialized oil processing equipment, perform oil sampling and testing, support transformer maintenance and commissioning activities, and work in substations, power plants, and industrial facilities to maintain the health of high-voltage electrical assets. You’ll work independently or as part of a crew to ensure reliability, safety, and customer satisfaction.What You’ll DoPerform degassing, pressure, and vacuum testing using dehydrator unitsSet up, operate, and troubleshoot oil processing equipment, including vacuum dehydration systems and filtration units.Conduct oil sampling and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.Perform oil fills on new transformer installations and during maintenance outages.Maintain proper oil levels and monitor transformer pressure and temperature conditions during processing activities.Assist with teardown and preparation of transformers for transport or disposalComplete assigned tasks and daily work orders accurately and on scheduleInspect and operate tools, vehicles, and heavy equipment safelyFollow all safety protocols and PPE requirements when working near noise, electrical hazards, and at elevated heightsSupport the sales team by reporting project opportunities and potential customer leadsThe Experience We’re Looking For3 to 5 years of experience in transformer oil processing, service, or assemblyBasic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and online platformsClear and professional communication skills with the ability to follow instructionsSelf-motivated and able to work independently while meeting team objectivesAdditional RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED requiredValid driver’s license Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.Ability to pass a DOT physical examMust successfully complete a background check and pre-employment/random drug testsLegal authorization to work in the United StatesAvailability for extended or irregular hours, including weekends and holidaysPhysical capability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights exceeding 100 feet, operate in confined spaces, and perform duties outdoors in all weather conditionsGood vision, hearing, and English proficiency to ensure safe and effective communication in noisy environmentsBonus Points ForExperience with transformer oil filtration, testing, or disassemblyPossession of a Class A CDL, OSHA training, or a TWIC cardHolding a DOT medical certificationFamiliarity with transformer components, control wiring, or oil filtrationExperience using shop equipment, electrical tools, or test platformsKnowledge of transformer teardown or disposal preparation proceduresPrevious work experience with energized equipment or substationsWhy Join RMS EnergyWe’re not just another power services company.
