QualificationsAssociate's Degree or higher - OR - Illinois Paraprofessional Educator License (or valid Short-Term Paraprofessional Approval)Three (3) years' experience as a security officer, school security officer, or law enforcement officerValid driver's license and reliable transportationSuccessful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within 90 days of employmentSuccessful completion of CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of employmentPrevious successful experience working with studentsExcellent human relations and communication skillsAbility to work cooperatively with staff, students, and parents from a variety of racial, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgroundsAbility to remain calm and non-confrontational with students in crisisAbility to diffuse situations calmly and with authorityAbility to think clearly and take effective action quickly in an emergencyAbility and willingness to physically intervene in student confrontationsFamiliarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google SuiteWillingness to attend professional trainings on a regular basisAbility and willingness to work overtime for patrols at assigned campuses and special events as directedAbility and willingness to respond to after-hours calls via landline or mobile phone and work overtime to respond to emergencies (alarm calls, crises, etc.) as directed CompensationThe hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health and term life insurance. There is a minimal employee cost for vision insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.
