We also cover your PERS contribution.HOURS: 6 hours/dayHIRING MANAGER: Matthew Olson - matthew.olson@nsantiam.k12.or.usJob Title: Special Programs Assistant IReports To: Supervising Teacher(s)/ AdministratorEvaluated By: Dean of Students/AdministratorJob Goal:Under the direct supervision of a licensed teacher or administrator, the Special Programs Assistant I provides support services to students in the ESL program, resource room, Title I program, strategic reading/math program, or other school-related areas associated with yellow zone support under the RTI model. Positions may be contingent upon available federal funding and the needs of the given student(s).Distinguishing Characteristics:Positions assigned to the Special Programs Assistant I classification are distinguished by the responsibility to provide, under teacher supervision, direct instruction to students identified as Resource, Title I, Strategic, or ESL, etc., and assist with developing teaching materials.Essential Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities needed for the position.High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education18 years of age or olderAbility to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and staffAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsAbility to maintain the confidentiality of students and their recordsAbility to supervise individual or groups of students in an instructional setting without constant teacher oversight; work in a team situationAbility to work with students who may exhibit aggressive behavior, as required by a specific job assignmentDemonstrate standards of moral character and behavior to serve as an effective role model for studentsUnderstand basic provisions of IDEA, due process procedures, and the IEPs for children identified as disabled, as required by specific job assignmentDemonstrate a positive attitude in working with children with special program needsKnowledge of business English, spelling, math, office practices and procedures, and computer skillsAbility to direct and respond appropriately to studentsAbility to work effectively in an environment that can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform physically demanding requirements of the jobIn an ESL/ migratory position, as specified by the administrator, the ability to be bilingual in Spanish, English, or other languages (speak, read, and write)Ability to deliver instructional programs to students who have learning and physical disabilities and/ or social behavior problems, as required by specific job assignment.Perform physical requirements, which may include:Moderate degree of physical stamina and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.Frequent standing, walking, and bendingPhysically restraining a student as needed, utilizing trained proceduresPossible exposure to bodily fluids in assisting students with using restrooms and in tending to injury and illnessSuch alternatives to the above requirements as the School Board or Administration may deem appropriate and acceptable.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:If assigned to the Resource Room, assist special education teaching staff with implementing the individualized education plan (IEP). Participate as a member of the IEP team, as requested, and attend IEP meetings as a team member when required, as required by the specific job assignment.Assist special programs teaching staff responsible for writing, reviewing, updating, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs, as required by specific job assignmentsAssist special programs teaching staff responsible for the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of individual and group behavioral programs, as required by specific job assignmentsAs required by the specific job assignment, assist special programs teaching staff in communicating with teachers and parents on students' progressAs required by specific job assignments, assist with recordkeeping to monitor students' daily and monthly data on instructional and behavioral progressAssist the classroom teacher in diagnostic testing and reportingProvide remedial instruction as requestedPrepare and teach a unit of instruction under a teacher's supervisionPerform clerical duties, including typing, data entry, duplicating, and recordkeepingSupervise student(s) in buildings or other school areas and school-related activities (i.e., hall duty, at assemblies, in lunch and playground areas, or with school buses as required)Assist the classroom teacher in maintaining class and student recordsMaintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and staffParticipate in in-service programs as assignedAct as a friendly ambassador of the North Santiam School DistrictPerform other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as deemed appropriate to the Board or AdministrationWorking Conditions:PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.Other:Valid First Aid card as requiredHQ ParaprofessionalCriminal Justice Fingerprint ClearanceBloodborne Pathogen Training/ Hepatitis B Shot Series Training as required
