Grounds - LEAD for Mowing & Landscaping Crew
This position works 40 hours per week 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM.$18.00 per hour plus $1.25 per hour stipend for lead with standard benefits. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. POSITION SUMMARY: Helps support the mission of the District by performing and directing a variety of dutiesassociated with grounds maintenance as related to mowing and landscaping, and snow removal. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Ability to lead and direct small groups to meet the mowing, landscaping and snow removal needs at various locations throughout the District. Responsible for mowing grass, trimming trees, edging around walks, flower beds, pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, removing leaves, branches, twigs, using mowers, tractors and other hand and powers tools as appropriate. Supervises the maintenance and repairs of all assigned equipment. May repair fences, gates, walls, walks; lifting and moving equipment and supplies and wearing protective clothing as required by the work environment. General grounds maintenance including snow removal, spreading salt, picking up litter, raking, bagging of leaves and the cleaning of drainage ditches and culverts as required.Plants, fertilizes, waters, uses herbicides and insecticides to maintain grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.Digging out decaying asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt.Building retaining walls.Generate, perform, and close work orders.Safely transport materials and equipment.Legally and safely operate a motor vehicle.Plan work, and work as a team member.Evaluate and solve problems in the absence of supervisor. Act as liaison between the Grounds Maintenance workers assigned and the Supervisor of Grounds Services.Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions. Perform annual employee performance evaluations to be submitted to the Supervisor of Grounds Services for assigned employees.Participate in interviews and selection process of new employees.Performs other duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Basic knowledge of duties required for mowing and landscaping, and snow removal at locations throughout the District.Ability to perform mowing, landscaping and snow removal operations in a safe and appropriate manner.Ability to bend, lift, and move supplies and equipment up to 100 pounds.Ability to wear job appropriate personal protective equipment.Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures utilized in grounds maintenance.Ability to understand and know how to use supplies and equipment via material safety data sheets.BASIC REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED.Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment including tractors and riding mowers.Basic math, writing, communication and computer skills.Welding and cutting knowledge and experience preferred.Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, email, etc.Operating knowledge of work order system, i.e. FS Direct, MS Word and Excel within 6 months of entering position.EQUIPMENT USED: Asphalt grinder, asphalt roller, backpack blower, backpack sprayer, bale chopper, bobcat implements, bobcat skid steer, box trailer, chainsaws, cutting torches, demolition saw, extended pole pruner, fencing hand tools, hand held blower, hand tools (shovels, grinders, mechanical tools), hedge trimmer, John Deere gator, laser level, mini excavators, PPE equipment, push blower, push mower, salt spreader, snow plow, string trimmer, telehandler, utility tractor, utility trailer, vacuum for tractor, water pump, wire feed welder, wood chipper, zero turn mower. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Within an office environment.Outdoors, including in inclement weather.Must be flexible, able to report to various school sites and when necessary, various shifts or days of the week, including weekends and evenings.This position is very active and requires the physical ability to enable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and lifting throughout each shift.
