Our client is a well-established industrial manufacturer seeking a Tooling Engineer to lead the design and drafting of molds, fixtures, and tools that support the manufacture of its product lines. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality products to customers and partners closely with engineering to implement uniform design and drafting standards.The Tooling Engineer will also drive the adoption of new tooling technologies - including 3D modeling and design analysis software - while developing external tooling resources (machine shops, mold makers) and mentoring junior designers.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPartner with engineering to improve product design and manufacturabilityDesign and detail complex molds, fixtures, and simple toolsReview mold, tooling, and product drawings for form, fit, and functionPrepare cost estimates and budgetary quotes, and select vendorsCollaborate with shop personnel to ensure proper tooling fit and usageApply mathematical formulas to calculate material stresses and deflectionProduce 3D models and perform basic FEA analysis using 3D modeling softwareWork with machining vendors to ensure functional tooling is delivered on time and on budgetOversee test operations as assignedVerify test equipment and tooling meet appropriate safety factors and are used correctlySchedule and prioritize workflowProvide instruction and training to team members and production personnelMentor tooling designers and advance tooling standardization effortsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with at least 4 years of tooling or mechanical design experience (8+ years of related technical experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)Strong drafting skills5+ years using CAD software in a machine shop environment preferredProficiency in SolidWorks 3D modeling and drawing softwareProficiency in strength analysis using SolidWorksStrong ability to comprehend, interpret, and execute verbal and written instructionsSolid math skills, including trigonometry, area, volume, weight, and center-of-gravity calculationsWorking knowledge of steel material properties and fabrication practicesAbility to translate technical information into clear, accessible termsDemonstrated ability to train and mentor othersProficiency in Word and ExcelStrong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsDo not apply unless you are authorized to work in the United States for any employer as client company cannot sponsor or transfer visas at this time.Walker Elliott is an Equal Opportunity Employer.For additional information, please email your resume to resumes@walker-elliott.com or apply online.
