HPC Platform Engineer / Linux Systems AdministratorLocation: Berkeley, CA Hybrid (once in a week onsite)Pay Rate: $80-90/hr on w2About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced HPC Platform Engineer / Linux Systems Administrator to support one of the world's leading High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments. You'll work within a state-of-the-art 20,000 sq. ft. data center supporting large-scale scientific computing infrastructure, including next-generation supercomputing systems.This is an infrastructure-focused role responsible for deploying, integrating, administering, and troubleshooting large-scale Linux and Kubernetes environments. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and can work independently with minimal direction.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, administer, and maintain Linux-based HPC environments.Deploy and support on-premises Kubernetes clusters and platform services.Manage medium to large-scale HPC clusters and compute infrastructure.Troubleshoot Linux operating systems, networking, storage, hardware, and distributed systems.Perform Kubernetes platform integration and infrastructure administration (not application development).Automate operational tasks using Shell scripting and/or Python.Support virtualization platforms including VMware and Proxmox.Monitor infrastructure using Grafana, Prometheus, and Kibana.Manage Identity and Access Management (IAM), authentication, and user administration.Work with GitHub/GitLab and CI pipelines for infrastructure automation.Support HPC networking technologies including InfiniBand.Manage batch computing environments and workload schedulers.Deploy and manage Kubernetes tooling such as Helm Charts and Fleet.Participate in occasional hands-on hardware support, including drive replacements, cable troubleshooting, and data center maintenance activities.Required QualificationsStrong Linux Systems Administration experience (required).Experience supporting High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments.Hands-on experience with on-premises Kubernetes administration.Experience managing medium to large-scale compute clusters.Strong troubleshooting skills across Linux, networking, storage, and hardware.Experience with Shell scripting and/or Python automation.Experience with GitHub or GitLab and CI/CD workflows.Experience with monitoring tools including Grafana and Prometheus.Experience with Identity & Access Management (LDAP, Active Directory, or similar).Preferred QualificationsExperience with InfiniBand networking.Experience with batch scheduling systems (e.g., Slurm or similar).VMware and/or Proxmox administration.Kubernetes ecosystem tools such as Helm and Fleet.Experience with Kibana and centralized logging platforms.Experience supporting GPU clusters or large-scale scientific computing infrastructure.Familiarity with system integration, firmware updates, and hardware troubleshooting in enterprise data center environments.ThanksUpendra
