Job Family STAFF - Support Staff Grade HF Salary $21.80 - $29.80 Department Technology Reports To Department Chairperson Closing Date Open Until Filled FLSA Status Non-Exempt First Review Date April 13, 2026Position OverviewThe Part-Time Professional Coordinator/Academic Advisor provides guidance, advisement, coaching and mentoring, course scheduling coordination, clerical and operational support for the Bachelor of Applied Sciences (BAS) or (BS) Program, Associate of Arts (AA), and Associate of Science (AS) Program, to the Department Chairperson, and/or the School Director.What you will be doingAdvises students regarding admissions, financial aid, academic testing, and graduationProvides individual career counseling to students and assists new, continuing, transfer students to define/ clarify their educational goals and recommends courses and programs of studyConducts case management activities for 250+ students (and growing)Maintains regular communication with students regarding their academic progressTracks individual student performance and ensures that the BS or BAS graduates complete their academic requirements and paperwork to "walk" graduationCreates, updates, tracks and maintains BS or BAS student enrollment and reporting databases for State Program Reports and Audits and ascertains program recruitment, enrollment, and completion reviews; approves Program Review Audits and student Individual Education Plans (IEP)Gathers and prepares the information necessary to complete the baccalaureate year-end reportAssists the Chairperson with planning, recruitment and retention activities for all programs of studyWorks with department Chairperson(s) to coordinate and assist with curriculum development and course scheduling for all BS or BAS courses; assists faculty with books/materials evaluation, ordering and distributionHelps create and administer student surveys to ensure that the program meets expectationsProvides general information and answers student queries regarding the BS or BAS programRepresents department at recruitment fairs and other official activitiesReviews and evaluates transfer student transcripts from other institutionsCoordinates with Admission, Advisement, Veteran Affairs, and ISS representatives across all MDC campuses to maintain accurate student degree audit informationPerforms other duties as assigned What you need to succeed Bachelors Degree in related discipline and three (3) years of related work experienceAll degrees must be from a regionally accredited institutionKnowledge and understanding of College organization, goals, and objectives, and policies and proceduresAbility to organize and deliver presentations to audiencesProficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other related computer programsPossess excellent organizational and decision-making skillsPossess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, coworkers, and general publicKnowledge of discipline specific materials, industry standard practices, industry employment opportunitiesKnowledge of higher educational programs and opportunitiesAbility to read and interpret documents such as school reports, data bases, course catalogs and transcriptsAbility to exercise discretion and independent judgment when completing daily assignmentsAbility to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignmentsAbility to work well with students, faculty and staff Additional Requirements The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.EQUAL ACCESS/EQUAL OPPORTUNITYMiami Dade College is an equal access/equal opportunity institution which does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, marital status, age, religion, national origin, disability, veteran's status, ethnicity, pregnancy, sexual orientation or genetic information.
