The Oncology Infusion RN is key to clinical success because they provide compassionate and professional direct patient care in our oncology clinic setting. An Oncology Infusion Nurse exemplifies proficient knowledge in the administration of cancer and hematology-related treatments, using up-to-date, evidence-based and clinically-supported safety guidelines.
This is a full-time position and may require some occasional travel to our satellite clinics in Woodburn, Silverton, and McMinnville. The candidate has the choice of four ten-hour shifts (7am-5:30pm) or five eight-hour shifts (7am-3:30pm) working Monday-Friday.
Essential Job Functions
Administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, immunotherapy, and Bispecific agents, antiemetics, analgesics, hematopoietic growth factors, and other medications to patients following appropriate guidelines and standards
Comprehensive assessments and monitoring of patients’ status throughout treatment process, communicating concerns effectively to provider
Monitor, recognize, and respond accordingly to adverse drug related reactions and emergencies
Documentation of patient care using electronic medical record system
Evaluating, verifying, administering, and completing provider orders with accuracy
Use of Pharmacy Keeper system for drug verification process and safe administration process
Safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials also following USP 800
Follow the 7 rights (right person, medication, dose, time, route, reason, and documentation) of medication administration with each patient
Demonstrating competency in the performance of simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to IV and port access, maintaining vascular devices, administration of IV medication and injections.
Demonstrating competency in reviewing tests and lab values pertinent to each patients’ care and communicating necessary results to providers
Collaborate and communicate with providers and other staff members to ensure cohesive patient care
Provide instruction and direction to patients and families on managing side effects related to disease process and related treatments
Stay updated on advancements, treatments, and best practices pertaining to patient care and nursing standards
Maintain licensure/certifications and comply with state and federal regulations regarding nursing practice
Performs other related duties as assigned by management, for which appropriate training will be provided, to support departmental objectives and organizational success
Required Qualifications
Nursing degree (Baccalaureate, Associate or Diploma) from an accredited school of nursing
Current RN License in State of Oregon
Basic Life Support certification within 2 months of hire
Current proficiency in IV access of all types
Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) within 2 years of hire
Must be fully vaccinated (exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis in compliance with applicable law)
Preferred Qualifications
Two years recent RN experience in a patient care setting
One-year experience in an inpatient or outpatient oncology clinical setting
BSN preferred
Current knowledge of chemotherapeutic agents, administration, side effects management and patient learning needs
Current OCN
Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certified
Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
Bilingual preferred
