Failure Analysis Technician
Location: Onsite – Oakland, CA Contract Duration: 6 MonthsPay Rate: Up to $45.13/hr (W2)Job OverviewThe hardware team is seeking a detail‑oriented and quality‑focused Failure Analysis Technician to support hands‑on investigation and root cause analysis of consumer electronics failures. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical troubleshooting skills, experience performing device teardowns, and the ability to work independently within a fast‑paced hardware environment.Reporting to the Failure Analysis (FA) Lead, you will collaborate with cross‑functional partners across engineering, quality, product, and operations teams to investigate field returns, identify recurring failure patterns, and support hardware quality improvements.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform hands‑on triage and root cause analysis on returned consumer electronicsReproduce reported failure modes and document conditions, steps, and outcomesExecute established failure analysis plans and identify gaps or improvement opportunitiesParticipate in issue reviews and contribute technical insights to support decision‑makingIdentify and flag recurring failure trends or patterns across multiple devicesMaintain accurate and organized tracking of all units and investigations in your queueCollaborate with mechanical, electrical, quality, product, operations, logistics, and program management teamsRequired Qualifications1–3+ years of hands‑on experience in failure analysis, triage, or root cause investigation of consumer electronics (smartphones, tablets, POS systems, or similar hardware)Experience performing hardware teardowns and device disassemblyWorking knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals (voltage, current, resistance)Experience using lab equipment such as:Optical microscopesMultimetersThermocouplesData loggersStrong documentation, organizational, and analytical skillsAbility to work independently and navigate ambiguous technical problemsHigh attention to detail with a quality‑focused mindsetPreferred / Nice‑to‑Have SkillsAbility to read electrical schematicsExperience with Jira, Snowflake, or LookerEducationBachelor’s degree OR3–5 years of relevant hands‑on experience in hardware failure analysis or related fieldBenefit Offerings:Benefit offerings include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, additional voluntary benefits, EAP program, and 401K plan.
