Job Title: Scientist - Upstream MSATJob DescriptionThe Upstream Bench Scientist will play a pivotal role in supporting DSI/DS manufacturing within the Manufacturing Sciences and Technologies (MSAT) organization. This position focuses on process launch and commercial support activities, including robustness studies, investigations, continued process verification, technology transfer, and second-generation process development. The role also supports MSAT and network-wide initiatives aimed at operational excellence and scientific advancement. Work is primarily non-GMP and must adhere to applicable regulations, quality standards, and internal policies.Responsibilities+ Design and execute laboratory experiments using established scientific methods to support research, development, and manufacturing objectives.+ Independently plan studies, analyze results, draw conclusions, and present findings to project and technical teams.+ Lead upstream and recovery model activities at laboratory and/or pilot scale, including process development efforts.+ Prepare and analyze samples using appropriate laboratory instrumentation and techniques.+ Analyze process and analytical data using visualization and statistical tools to inform hypotheses, experimental design, and project-level decisions.+ Maintain accurate and compliant documentation of experimental procedures, data, and observations in accordance with ALCOA principles using electronic laboratory notebooks or other digital systems.+ Collaborate cross-functionally to troubleshoot process issues and interpret experimental results.Essential Skills+ Hands-on experience with upstream laboratory techniques and instrumentation related to aseptic processing, media formulation, cell expansion, primary/production bioreactors (cell culture), and harvest.+ Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow and adapt scientific protocols.+ Demonstrated strength in data interpretation and technical documentation.+ Effective written and verbal communication skills.+ Proven ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.Additional Skills & Qualifications+ Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a closely related scientific discipline.+ BS with 5+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 3+ years of relevant experience, or PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.Work EnvironmentThe work environment is primarily based in the MSAT lab, with some time spent on the production floor to ensure smooth tech transfer. The position involves partnering with other scientists, leadership, and engineers.
