Precision Grinder – Day Shift

Kent Machine is looking for an experienced Precision Grinder to join our team. This is a hands-on precision machining position for someone who can work from a print, perform their own setups and inspection, troubleshoot problems, and consistently produce quality work while holding tight tolerances. What You'll Do Precision Grinding Set up and operate surface, cylindrical/OD-ID, and/or jig grinding equipment. Perform multiple setups and manufacture precision components to blueprint specifications. Maintain dimensional accuracy, tight tolerances, and required surface finishes. Monitor part quality throughout the manufacturing process and make machine adjustments as necessary. Troubleshoot grinding, setup, and dimensional issues. Perform in-process dimensional checks and make corrections as needed to maintain required tolerances. Blueprint Reading & Inspection Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and manufacturing specifications. Work with GD&T requirements and tight-tolerance components. Use precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges. Verify finished components meet customer and quality requirements. Work with our Lab/Quality Department, which performs required formal and final inspections to verify components meet customer specifications. Team & Manufacturing Support Work closely with Production, Quality, and Project Management to resolve manufacturing challenges. Communicate issues that could impact quality, productivity, or delivery. Contribute ideas that improve machining processes, quality, and efficiency. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. What We're Looking For This is a setup-level precision machining position, not a basic machine-tending role. We are looking for someone who understands the entire grinding process and is comfortable taking responsibility for producing a quality finished part. Qualified candidates should have: Previous precision grinding experience. Strong experience setting up and operating at least one of the following: Surface grinders Cylindrical / OD-ID grinders Jig grinders Ability to independently perform machine setups. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and manufacturing drawings. Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment. Ability to consistently work within tight tolerances. Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. A commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement. 5+ years of precision machining or grinding experience is preferred, but demonstrated skill and capability are more important than years of experience alone.
