Communicates medical information with parents and guardians. Provides office assistance.Essential Functions/Duties:As assigned, set up and maintain the school health roomRecord students' information, height, weight, and participate in taking vital signs; call parents/guardians if students may have a contagious diseaseDocument Health Room visits, provide treatment and maintain comprehensive health records on all students as directed by the Certified School Nurse.Administer approved prescribed medication according to school district policyAdminister first aid and conduct initial assessment of students/staff regarding complaints of illness and injury, according to district policy and proceduresPerform clinical nursing skills within the standards of the Nurse Practice ActAssist with mandatory screenings and exams, including documentation and follow-up, at the direction of the Certified School NurseMaintain communications with staff, parents, and the Certified School Nurse regarding health concerns of studentsMaintain a progress record on every student who requests treatmentCheck doctors' notes for acceptability of a student to return to schoolFile, copy, answer the phone, deliver messages, and perform varied office assistant dutiesAttend required training provided by DistrictAttend work regularly and on time, and complete assigned tasksAdditional Duties:Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor(s)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of work, including student and staff medical recordsAbility to establish and maintain effective working relations with students, parents/guardians, health care professionals, and associates knowledge of first aid and CPR principles and practicesSkill in administering prescribed medicationAbility to take health related information and maintain related recordsAbility to assist health care professional take vital signsAbility to communicate effectively, orally and in writingAbility to maintain confidentiality in regard to student/staff recordsAbility to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work and in working relations with students, associates, district staff, vendors and community membersMust demonstrate ability to be congenial, cooperative and service orientedAbility to organize and handle multiple tasksAbility to work in an environment with frequent interruptionsAbility to exercise good judgmentAbility to operate standard office equipmentAble to respond quickly to emergent situationsAbility to physically assist in moving/positioning studentsTypically sits for sustained periods of time at a desk and/or computerTypically requires close visual acuity involved with medical procedures, viewing a computer screen and readingFrequent bending, crouching, stooping, twisting, reaching and graspingSome lifting and carrying, up to 50 poundsManual dexterity and repetitive movement of fingers and handsAble to receive and deliver detailed information through written and oral communicationsAble to function at a high level in a fast paced work environmentMinimum Qualifications:Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED preferredExperience: Prior nursing experience preferredRequired Certification/Licenses: RN (Registered Nurse) License; LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse); or Current BLS CPR/AED Certificate is requiredTravel Requirements: Limited travel within the District for training or coverage; May be requested to accompany students on field tripsWorking Conditions:School setting, including offices, hallways and school groundsInterested individuals are asked to apply online at www.etownschools.org.
