SMS Corporate is seeking a highly skilled, versatile and safety-focused Maintenance Manager (Master Mechanic, Multi-Site Travel) with a strong background as a Master Mechanic to oversee maintenance operations across all U.S. locations. This role requires a hands-on leader who can manage maintenance teams and programs. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and leadership ability, with the flexibility and willingness to travel extensively across our nationwide facilities.SMS provides a comprehensive range of services for steel mill customers. We partner with our customers to design custom, cost-effective solutions, which focus on adding value and achieving goals for the operation and the environment. Our range of services includes, but is not limited to, scrap yard management, finished or semi-finished product services, melt shop services, logistics/transportation support, and slag processing.This position will report to a Regional Operations Director.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage maintenance operations across multiple U.S. sites, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient performance of all equipment and facilitiesDevelop, implement, and oversee preventative and predictive maintenance programs to maximize uptime and reduce unplanned downtimeServe as a Master Mechanic to train, mentor, and support local maintenance staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellencePartner with site managers and operations leadership to prioritize and execute maintenance initiativesEnsure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements across all locationsTrack and report maintenance metrics, budgets, and performance data to leadership. Prepare daily, weekly, & monthly reports of all the production activities and respond to information requests from site, division, and corporate teamsTravel to company sites across the U.S. (estimated 50–75% travel required) to provide direct support, training, and leadershipComply with cost savings initiatives, identify, and recognize ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue, including treating any company expenses the same as you would if it was your own moneyFunction as part of the management team and align with core values to meet company policies and goals, escalating and reporting issues that require further assistance as appropriatePlan, participate and actively contribute to internal and external business meetings as neededQualifications10+ years of maintenance experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership/managerial roleCertified Master Mechanic or equivalent expertise strongly preferredDeep knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systemsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with hands-on repair experienceExcellent leadership and communication skills; proven ability to train and mentor technical teamsExperience managing maintenance budgets, projects, and contractorsAbility and willingness to travel extensively across the U.S. (must have valid driver's license and passport for potential international support if needed)Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and continuous improvementPreferredExperience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or multi-site operationsCMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) proficiencyLean/TPM or reliability-centered maintenance backgroundWhat We Can OfferA comprehensive compensation package to commensurate with experience including bonusesBenefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, company-paid life insurance, etc., offered on day 1!401(k) with 4% matching, 100% vested as of first contributionPaid holidays, 4 weeks paid vacationWork in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing teamOpportunities to grow and learn with the industrySMS Mill Services, LLC is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
