Staff Software Development Engineer
Position Summary CVS Health Digital is seeking a Staff Software Development Engineer. The Staff Software Development Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end application development and delivery, including production deployment, application operationalization, and observability. In this role, the engineer will develop data pipelines to ingest, process, and broadcast data across heterogeneous databases, advocate for and implement security best practices, and work with other engineers to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks within deadlines. What you will do Build and deploy using GitHub, CircleCI, Harness as part of the CI/CD process across leading cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.) Continuously monitor application health and KPIs, support triage of production issues as needed Partner with application owners, business partners, and peer groups on long‐ and short‐range technical solutions that meet business requirements Analyze and contribute to project and business requirements based on product team milestones and priority Actively participate in Agile Scrum activities including Sprint Planning, Grooming, Reviews, and Retrospectives Design and implement efficient, scalable solutions that meet business requirements and quality standards Contribute to solution design and architecture discussions, collaborating with architects and senior engineers Provide input on technical feasibility, performance optimization, and scalability to ensure the overall solution meets objectives Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines Communicate and coordinate with team members to ensure alignment, share technical insights, and contribute to decision making Promote adoption of best practices, new technologies, and tools to enhance productivity, efficiency, and code quality Engage in knowledge sharing activities such as code reviews, tech talks, and workshops to foster a culture of learning and collaboration Implement complex features, enhance existing functionality, and ensure delivery of high‐quality code with other developers and team members Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers, helping them improve technical skills and grow professionally Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience in software engineering from ideation to production deployment of software 7+ years experience in full software development life cycle including ideation, coding, code reviews, testing, and production deployments 7+ years of experience in enterprise/web applications 7+ years as a full‐stack developer in Java‐based technologies focused on backend 5+ years experience with Azure, GCP, or other public cloud services; Infrastructure as Code (IaC); SaaS application development/support; CI/CD practices; containerization; Kubernetes; and Agile/DevOps methodologies 5+ years' experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with product management tools such as Jira, Confluence, or Rally Preferred Qualifications Experience writing automated unit and mock test cases for code coverage Nice to have experience creating and managing GCP Storage Buckets, Composer workflows, Dataflow jobs, Cloud Scheduler, and IAM (service account/role) management Deployment and troubleshooting of applications in a cloud environment (GCP) Experience with Kubernetes (GCP‐GKE), Dataflow, Airflow, Google Spanner, MongoDB, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SOAP services, GitHub, and GitHub Actions Experience with log ingestion and building dashboards using Prometheus and Grafana Proficiency in SQL and NoSQL database technologies; Query and interpret logging entries by application tiers and components using trace logs Form requests in tooling such as Postman, SOAP UI to invoke API endpoints Experience working in a Scrum/Agile development methodology Ability to work independently and as part of a team Expert Java programming knowledge on latest JDK versions, Spring framework, and open‐source packages (Apache, Google, Spring) Database knowledge – SQL, NoSQL, table structure, data relationships; familiarity with GraphQL/gRPC In‐depth experience building application programming interfaces (API) and frameworks Experience with API security, analytics, throttling, caching, logging, request/response modification Extensive experience in monolith to microservices migration; designing microservices patterns; cloud native development and 12‐factor app practices Education Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (high school diploma plus four years of relevant work experience) Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is $118,450.00 – $284,280.00. This represents the base salary; the actual offer will depend on experience, education, geography, and other factors. The position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short‐term incentive program, and an equity award program.
