Position: Character Education Instructional ParaprofessionalCampus: Lobit Elementary SchoolWage/Hour Status: NonexemptImmediate Supervisor(s): Campus Principal and Teacher(s) AssignedPay Grade: Per Compensation ManualDays Employed: Per Compensation ManualPRIMARY PURPOSE:* Assist teachers in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements* Work under the supervision of a certified teacherEducation/Certification:* High School Diploma or GED* Valid Texas educational aide certificateQualifications for paraprofessional (PK-12 instructional aides):Must have completed at least 30 college hours; orObtained an associate's (or higher) degree; orMet a rigorous standard of quality, demonstrated through a formal State or local academic assessmentSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructionsGood interpersonal skillsAbility to work well with students and staffExperience:* Some experience working with childrenMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Instructional Support:Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displaysAssist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignmentsHelp maintain a neat and orderly classroomHelp with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipmentHelp teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reportsProvide orientation and assistance to substitute teachersStudent Management:Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, work with individual students or small groupsHelp supervise students throughout the school day, inside, and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.Keep the teacher informed of the special needs of studentsOther:Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performParticipate in faculty meetings and special eventsOther duties as assignedEQUIPMENT USED:* Copier, computer, audiovisual equipmentWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:* Maintain emotional control under stress* Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting
