Senior API Architect – Azure & Java
About the roleWe are building an enterprise Data Hub on Azure that ingests, curates and serves data across a wide set of inbound and outbound interfaces. APIs are the front door to that platform: reactive Java Spring WebFlux services handle both data exchange and large file transfers to and from partner and downstream systems.We are looking for a hands-on API architect to own that API layer end to end. You will work closely with the customer, partnering with their architects, engineers and system owners to agree interface contracts and delivery sequencing, and you will be accountable for the design and architecture of every API the Data Hub exposes and consumes.This is a design-and-build role, not a diagrams-only role. You will set the standards, then prove them by writing the reference services your engineers pattern-match against. Expect roughly a 60/40 split between architecture and hands-on engineering.Key Responsibilities:Own end-to-end API architecture, design, standards, contracts, versioning, and documentation.Design scalable REST/OpenAPI APIs for data exchange and large file transfers.Develop hands-on Java Spring Boot/Spring WebFlux reactive services using Project Reactor.Design resilient APIs with backpressure, retries, circuit breakers, idempotency, rate limiting, and streaming.Deploy and manage APIs on Azure App Service, AKS, or Container Apps using Azure API Management.Integrate with ADLS Gen2, Event Hubs, Service Bus/Kafka, and Azure data platforms.Implement security using OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, Entra ID, Managed Identity, Key Vault, RBAC, and private endpoints.Build CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and infrastructure using Terraform.Use Python for automation, testing, and operational tooling.Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, collaborate with architects/clients, and support production issues.Must-Have Skills:Java, Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, Project ReactorREST, OpenAPI, API architecture & contract-first developmentLarge file transfer, SFTP, signed URLs, multipart/resumable uploadsAzure API Management, App Service/AKS/Container AppsEntra ID, Key Vault, Managed Identity, RBACEvent Hubs, Service Bus, or KafkaSQL & data modelingAzure DevOps, CI/CD, TerraformPythonStrong architecture documentation and client-facing communicationNice to Have:Azure Databricks, Data Factory, ADLS Gen2AZ-204/AZ-305 certificationFinancial services/insurance experienceWorkday/ERP integrationGraphQL, gRPC, event streamingData mesh/data productsAPI gateway migration/consolidation experience
