Overview In this role, you design, implement, and maintain SpaceX’s enterprise storage infrastructure to support mission-critical workloads. You’ll work cross-functionally with compute, networking, and applications teams to deliver high-performance, scalable storage solutions. You will tackle complex storage challenges across multiple tiers and protocols, driving reliability and efficiency in a demanding on-premises environment. This is a chance to shape storage strategy for exabyte-scale workloads and contribute to SpaceX’s ambitious mission. ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain multi-tier storage infrastructure (high-performance, capacity, archive, backup/recovery, DR)Architect and operate high-throughput, low-latency storage for simulation, telemetry, and high-concurrency workloadsAdminister NetApp, Pure FlashArray/FlashBlade, Vast, and HPE Alletra storage systemsMonitor and troubleshoot storage across hardware, transport (RDMA), and protocol layersTroubleshoot complex issues involving multiple protocols and operating systemsManage storage access, permissions, and access controls across various protocols and OSsDevelop automation/tools for monitoring, capacity planning, configuration management, and alertingDefine and enforce standards for storage deployment and performance tuningCollaborate with compute, networking, and application teams to align storage strategy with workloadsParticipate in maintenance, on-call rotations, and occasional hardware installation Key requirementsBachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related STEM field with 3+ years in IT storage engineering, or 5+ years of storage engineering experience in lieu of a degreeExperience with enterprise storage platforms: NetApp, Pure Storage, Vast, HPE AlletraStrong understanding of storage protocols: NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, NVMe over TCPStrong written and verbal communicationAbility to explain complex designs clearlyTeam collaboration with virtualization and networking teamsNetApp, Pure Storage, Vast, HPE AlletraNFS, CIFS/SMB, iSCSI, NVMe over TCPRDMA, storage performance tuning
