Project Accountant Opportunity | Midtown Manhattan | Trend-Setting Design Firm We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Project Accountant to support a fast-paced real estate development and construction team. This role will sit at the intersection of accounting, construction operations, and project management, playing a critical part in maintaining financial accuracy and supporting the successful execution of active development projects.The ideal candidate will have experience within real estate development or general contracting environments and thrive in a collaborative setting where they can take ownership of project financials, contract administration, and day-to-day accounting operations.What You’ll DoProcess subcontractor, vendor, and consultant requisitions and compile loan draws and AIA G702/G703 documentation.Partner closely with Construction Project Managers to review and approve accounting requests and project-related expenses.Maintain project bookkeeping and oversee budgets across multiple active construction projects, proactively identifying and communicating any overages or financial concerns.Support contract administration efforts, including drafting, reviewing, and finalizing subcontractor and vendor buyouts, insurance requirements, and contractual language.Conduct monthly audits of project costs against approved investment budgets and maintain/update the ACR throughout the lifecycle of each project.Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports, for internal leadership, lenders, and investment partners.Coordinate with external insurance brokers to oversee company-wide risk management and ensure all construction and condominium insurance policies remain current and compliant.Manage subcontractor insurance compliance by tracking Certificates of Insurance (COIs), permit renewals, and required coverage documentation.Reconcile company credit card expenses and support day-to-day accounts payable functions.Manage mortgage payments, project disbursements, construction loan reconciliations, reimbursable expenses, and additional project-related accounting activities.Assist in implementing processes and operational best practices to improve efficiency across the department.Review and help maintain project schedules, permits, and insurance documentation as needed.Provide additional accounting and operational support to both the corporate finance and construction teams.Who You AreBachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.3+ years of experience as a Project Accountant or Bookkeeper.Prior experience within real estate development or general contracting environments is required.Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.Familiarity with AIA Documents G702/G703 and construction draw processes.Strong understanding of subcontractor insurance compliance, procurement, buyouts, and renewals.Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with both finance andconstruction professionals.Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.Salary: $80,0000 - $110,000 base salary + benefits & annual bonus.
