Supplemental Instruction Host

Position Summary The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Host will be a third- or -fourth year MSM MD student who exhibits content-competency determined by final course grades. An SI Host will have good interpersonal and communication skills. SI Hosts will attend regular training and development sessions to strengthen their knowledge, skills and understanding surrounding the international Supplemental Instruction model. SI Hosts will use pre-established curricula resources to prepare lesson plans for weekly, three-hour SI sessions to actively engage session attendees with lecture content. SI Hosts will meet regularly with course specific faculty to discuss common themes and content challenges faced by students currently taking their courses. The SI Host will work with OSLER leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate the SI program and generate new ideas to improve processes. The SI Host will assist OSLER in maximizing efficiency and expanding capacity in the provision of student academic support services. All SI Hosts will be compensated for preparation hours, training and actual hours worked weekly, up to a maximum of 20 hours per pay period. Required Responsibilities: Attend training prior to start date and any recurring training(s) & peer observations during the semester. Prepare for SI sessions by reading required material, utilizing identified resources, creating handouts, organizing course material and consulting with faculty. Conduct at least four Supplemental Instruction sessions throughout one academic year. Upload lesson plan and handout to SI Documents platform prior to each session. Record and submit all session attendance to SI Coordinator. Accurate and timely data is of utmost importance. Meet regularly with MD2 faculty for 15-30 minutes during host’s week, at the faculty’s discretion. Assist in marketing and announcing upcoming SI sessions and schedules. Email students weekly with session times and outline of what will be occurring in SI. Copy the SI Coordinators on every correspondence to your class(es) and professors. Share student and tutor feedback with OSLER leadership. Provide group tutoring sessions as requested and approved. Create and maintain an up-to-date profile and schedule all sessions using Tutor Ocean. Maintain confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions in accordance with OILAS and OSLER policies. May only work a maximum of 20 hours in any bi-weekly pay period.
