NOTRE DAME DE SION SCHOOL POSITION PROFILEPOSITION TITLE: High School Social Studies Teacher (US History & American Government)FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt, Full Time (10 month)REPORTS TO: High School PrincipalA Social Studies teacher at Notre Dame de Sion leads engaging, mission-driven instruction in U.S. History and American Government, helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits needed to think critically about the world around them.This role is instrumental in forming students who are thoughtful, informed, and engaged citizens. Through rigorous coursework and experiential learning opportunities, the Social Studies teacher supports students in making connections between historical context and present-day issues.Sion educators are: Confident Practitioners who empower students for success by structuring, adapting, and delivering intentionally-planned lessons that encompass the objectives and engage a diverse learning community. Growth-Minded Learners: who seek and share knowledge, accept challenges, and take risks to become an expert in their field, acknowledging failure as a learning opportunity.Inclusive Community Builders who cultivate a welcoming environment, foster meaningful relationships, and communicate effectively through authentic dialogue.QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in History, Social Sciences, or related field Demonstrated ability to design engaging, student-centered instruction Strong understanding of adolescent learning and development Excellent communication skills with students, families, and colleagues Ability to build relationships and create a positive classroom environment Experience integrating experiential and interdisciplinary learning Ability to use data to inform instruction and support student growth Commitment to collaboration, reflection, and professional growth Essential Job DutiesInstruction & CurriculumTeaches U.S. History and American Government using engaging, rigorous, and student-centered instructional practices Designs and implements lesson plans aligned with standards and Sion Success OutcomesIntegrates critical thinking, discussion, and analysis into daily instruction Uses data, including ACT benchmarks, to inform instruction and support student growthExperiential & Interdisciplinary LearningDesigns and teaches a two-week place-based experiential Deep Dive course Collaborates with faculty across disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning opportunitiesConnects course content to real-world issues and current events Collaboration & Program DevelopmentWorks with the Social Studies Instructional Lead to refine and strengthen the Social Studies programParticipates in department and school-wide curriculum development Engages in ongoing professional learning and instructional improvement Faculty ResponsibilitiesMaintains accurate attendance, grading, and student records Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events Provides supervision at school activities and events Performs additional duties as assigned by the Principal Physical Requirements And Work EnvironmentWork in a classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat.May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled environment. Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
