Part-time Faculty — Game DesignArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced part-time faculty member in Game Design to join our team. The salary range for this position is $5,990.00 - $12,583.00. This includes upholding and cultivating an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging.ArtCenter College of Design seeks experienced, creative, and collaborative game designers to teach part-time in the Game Design track of the Entertainment Design program. We are looking for instructors with strong industry experience, a passion for mentoring the next generation of designers, and the ability to teach courses ranging from systems design and narrative design to level design, visual scripting, and production workflows using game engines like Unreal or Unity.Courses may include introductory through advanced classes in areas such as:Game Systems and MechanicsLevel DesignNarrative and WorldbuildingVisual Scripting and PrototypingExperimental Interfaces and Physical GamesGame Production and Team CollaborationAssignments may vary each term and include in-person, online, or hybrid formats. Faculty are expected to support students in developing a solid understanding of game design principles, critical thinking, and creative iteration while fostering an inclusive and engaged learning environment.Assigned classes may be in person, online, or a combination of modalities.Please submit a cover letter of interest, resume, and relevant work.Essential functions include:Provide instruction and feedback during scheduled class hours or meetingsProvide asynchronous instruction and feedback, as applicable for the courseMaintain, track, and report student attendance through the Learning Management System ("LMS"), and report issues of student attendance to the Department Chair, Associate Chair, or Assistant ChairPrepare instructional materials and class syllabi (aligned with current department curriculum Program Learning Outcomes and Course Learning Outcomes) in LMS and other College tools or templates;Before week one of classes, distribute syllabi to students, and College administration pursuant to College guidelinesPost student grades in required tools by required deadlinesCommunicate with students through the College's official LMS, Zoom, at on campus meetings and ArtCenter sanctioned events, and/or ArtCenter email or other pre-approved methods and/or platforms of communication onlyFacilitate course evaluations through the College's evaluation protocol;As required by the Department Chair, Associate Chair, or Assistant Chair, participate in communication of courses by providing relevant materials to and communicating with departmentsAs required, provide materials for assessment according to accreditation standards and department and College compliance.Schedule a reasonable amount of time to hold student consultations outside of class to expand upon and/or clarify classroom instructionWrite student recommendations, if requested by the department or the studentRemain current on College procedures, tools, and learning modulesComplete required learning modules related to federal and state requirements and ArtCenter policies pertaining to health and safety rules, regulations and practices, as assigned by Employee Experience and Engagement DepartmentAttend required department and other administrative meetingsAttend required college-wide meetingsParticipate in Faculty Performance Review/Evaluation processRequired qualifications include:Minimum 5 years of professional experience in game design, game development, or related interactive media fieldsDemonstrated expertise in at least one or more areas of game design (e.g., systems, level design, narrative, scripting)Demonstrate an established and successful current professional creative career.Be idea driven and possess the ability to create strong syllabi, course learning outcomes and assessment methodsBe innovators and critical thinkers with an active interest in pedagogy and academics with an abiding interest in the future of the Game Design at a global level.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to develop clear syllabi, learning outcomes, and assessment methodsFamiliarity with game engines such as Unreal Engine, Unity, or custom enginesComfortable teaching both in-person and onlineHave excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to address the diverse learning needs of studentsAbility to handle confidential information with tact and discretion and recognize the confidential nature of ArtCenter business, as well as requirements under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)Must be able to work with and understand our culturally diverse student and faculty body with their needs and goalsA commitment to DEIAB and culture, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communitiesUnion membership is required as a condition of continued employment within 31 days following the execution of this Agreement or the first date for which they are on payroll, either become a member of the Union and pay regular monthly dues thereto, or in lieu thereof, shall pay an agency fee (a service charge as a contribution toward the cost of administration of this Agreement and representation by the Union) to the Union each month.Physical demands and working environment include:Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard classroom setting with frequent interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is regular exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust, and noise.Physical: Employees stand or sit most of the time, but may walk for brief periods of time.
