Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible Ability and experience working as a member of a team Skilled in the use of G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies. Ability to interpret, implement and use assistive technology in both curricular and functional activities. i.e. Big Mac switch, DynaVox, Ipad. Working knowledge of specialized equipment, i.e. wheelchairs, Hoyer lift, Cindy lift standers, wedges, floor mats, walkers, modified feeding instruments. Working knowledge of food preparation using thicket, grinding, etc. and feeding techniques Ability to attend to students personal needs related to toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene Knowledge of basic sign language preferred Working knowledge of universal precautionsREPORTS TO: Building Principal /Supervisor of Special EducationACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: This position is responsible for the planning and implementation of instructional services provided to students receiving special education services through Life Skills support. The Special Education Life Skills teacher is expected to develop and build upon foundational skills, maximize student strengths and identify areas of interest, reinforce expected behaviors and intervene to change unexpected behaviors, plan andparticipate in inclusive activities, plan instruction and activities that are a results driven process focusing on improving the academic and functional achievement of eligible students. Provide students with the necessary skills to perform Activities of Daily Living.Performance Accountabilities Models and exemplifies the district's core values Develop and write re-evaluation reports based on the results of assessments, data collection, and review of records Develop and deliver an appropriate IEP for students Implements all Specially Designed Instruction (SDI's) and modifications for students with a learning disability on caseload Plans and prepares daily lessons that are designed based on formative assessment data and follows the prescribed curriculum and IEP. Develop assessments that accurately reflect what a student should know, understand and be able to do and provides feedback to the student, parents and administration in a timely manner Evaluate students' academic performance, behavior and social progress toward their IEP goals through data collection, student work and observation Develop and implement plans to instruct in activities of daily living, including toileting and feeding Prepare progress reports, report cards and other state/district mandated paperwork/forms within established timelines Maintain accurate special education paperwork, data, and student records that are in compliance with federal and state regulations and District guidelines Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a positive, safe, and optimal learning environment that maximizes instructional time Monitors students in a variety of educational environments for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment Collaborate and communicate with parents, education personnel and other service providers to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) designed to increase student learning through specially designed instruction and accommodations for students' needs Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum, including pre-vocational instruction, and make adaptations and modifications to meet individual needs Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, following all District policies, building procedures and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of growing as a professional educator Work collaboratively with co-workers; including the proper management of support staff within the classroom Performs other duties as assigned by Building Principal and/or Supervisor for Special EducationPHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
