Job Description Sanitation WorkerPosition Summary The Sanitation Worker is responsible for cleaning and sanitizing food manufacturing equipment, production areas, utensils, and facility surfaces in accordance with company SOPs, FDA cGMP requirements, and applicable California food safety requirements. This position helps ensure a sanitary, safe, and compliant production environment. California food facilities must follow Good Manufacturing Practices, and sanitation is a core part of those requirements.Essential Duties Clean and sanitize production equipment, tools, floors, walls, drains, and food-contact surfaces.Disassemble and reassemble equipment for cleaning as trained and authorized.Prepare and use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals according to label instructions, SDS, and company procedures.Perform pre-op, in-process, and post-op sanitation tasks as assigned.Remove trash, waste, and product residues in a sanitary manner.Clean and restock handwashing stations, restrooms, break areas, and other support spaces.Follow allergen-control, contamination-prevention, and cross-contact procedures.Document sanitation activities, chemical concentrations, inspections, or verification checks when required.Report equipment damage, unsafe conditions, pest concerns, or sanitation nonconformances to supervision.Follow GMPs, food safety policies, and all safety procedures, including required PPE use.Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred.Prior sanitation experience in food manufacturing, beverage, nutraceutical, or other regulated production environments preferred.Ability to follow written SOPs, sanitation schedules, and supervisor directions.Basic understanding of sanitation chemicals, safe handling, and PPE.Ability to work in a fast-paced regulated environment with attention to detail.Willingness to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, or overtime as needed.cGMP and Food Safety Expectations Employees in food manufacturing are expected to maintain sanitary personal practices, keep work areas clean, and follow procedures that prevent contamination. The role should support documented sanitation controls, equipment cleanliness, employee hygiene, and facility sanitation as part of the company's food safety program.Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift for extended periods.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more, depending on job duties and facility needs.Ability to work around water, cleaning chemicals, steam, heat, cold, and noise.Ability to wear required PPE, including gloves, goggles, aprons, boots, or hearing protection.Work Environment Food manufacturing or processing facility.May involve wet floors, strong cleaning agents, and exposure to temperature changes.May require work around machinery, production lines, and refrigerated or hot processing areas.Must follow all company safety rules, sanitation schedules, and allergen-control procedures.
