Environmental Project Engineer (PRP)

NOVA Engineering & Environmental is seeking a mid-level Environmental Project Engineer in Tallahassee, Florida with 1–4 years of experience supporting Florida’s Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP). This role is ideal for an Environmental Engineer who thrives in both field and office environments and is experienced in site assessment, remediation system design, and regulatory compliance. NOVA provides full-service remediation solutions—including in-house design, installation, and long-term operation & maintenance of remedial systems—offering engineers hands-on experience across the entire project lifecycle.Key Responsibilities:Support Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) projects, including site assessment, remediation design, and regulatory compliance activitiesPerform and support site characterization activities, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, aquifer testing, and free product assessmentAssist in the preparation of Site Assessment Reports (SAR), Limited Contamination Assessments (LCA), Remedial Action Plans (RAP), Remedial Action Interim Reports (RAIR), and Site Rehabilitation Completion Reports (SRCR) in accordance with FDEP guidancePrepare and review FDEP-compliant technical reports, cost estimates, pay requests, and reimbursement documentation in accordance with PRP contracting requirementsConduct and/or oversee soil, groundwater, surface water, and vapor sampling in accordance with FDEP SOPs and QA/QC protocolsAssist with the design of remedial systems, including soil vapor extraction (SVE), air sparging, dual-phase extraction, groundwater recovery, and enhanced bioremediation systemsSupport the installation and startup of remediation systems, working alongside drilling and construction teams to ensure proper implementationParticipate in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of active remediation systems, including troubleshooting mechanical/electrical components and evaluating system performanceConduct pilot testing and system optimization, analyzing performance data to improve efficiency and drive site closure strategiesPerform data analysis and interpretation, including groundwater flow direction, contaminant plume delineation, and trend analysisDevelop and update conceptual site models (CSMs) to support remedial decision-makingOversee subcontractors (drillers, labs, remediation contractors) and ensure work is performed in accordance with scope, schedule, and safety requirementsCoordinate with laboratories and validate analytical data for accuracy and completenessMaintain compliance with FDEP Chapter 62-780, FAC and other applicable regulationsUtilize environmental databases and mapping tools for plume visualization and data managementParticipate in field work, including travel to project sites throughout FloridaSupport Project Managers with project scheduling, budgeting, cost tracking, and client communicationRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field1–4 years of experience working on Florida Petroleum Restoration Program (PRP) or similar petroleum remediation projectsWorking knowledge of FDEP regulations, Chapter 62-780 FAC, and PRP eligibility and reimbursement processesExperience with environmental drilling oversight, sampling methodologies, and field documentationStrong technical writing skills with the ability to prepare clear, concise regulatory reportsProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sitesPreferred Qualifications:Engineer Intern (EI) certification or ability to obtain; on track for PE licensure preferredHands-on experience with remediation system design, installation, or O&MExperience troubleshooting mechanical or electrical components of remediation systems (pumps, blowers, control panels, telemetry)Familiarity with FDEP deliverables and ATC processesExperience with GIS, AutoCAD, or environmental data systems (EQuIS)Consulting experience supporting petroleum remediation projectsNOVA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
