Anticipated Varsity Assistant Football Coach

Job DescriptionAssistant Football CoachJob Family: AthleticsCoach / Stipend / Per SeasonPURPOSEThe Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and directing the district's interscholastic football program. The primary purpose of this position is to instruct student-athletes in the fundamental skills, rules, strategies, and teamwork associated with football while promoting sportsmanship, discipline, personal growth, and academic success in accordance with district policies and governing athletic association regulations.QualificationsTRAINING AND EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or GED requiredCollege coursework or degree in education, physical education, or a related field preferredPrevious football coaching and/or competitive playing experience preferredKnowledge of football rules, strategies, skill development, and conditioning techniquesCompletion of required coaching certifications and training courses established by the district and governing athletic association (e.g., PIAA), including concussion management, first aid, and CPR/AEDGENERALAbility to instruct, motivate, and supervise student-athletesStrong leadership, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to promote sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, and positive student conductCommitment to student safety, injury prevention, and proper techniqueAbility to work collaboratively with athletic staff, administrators, parents/guardians, and officialsMust complete required background checks and district-mandated trainingREPORTABILITYThe Assistant Football Coach reports to the Head Football Coach or designee and operates within the district's athletic department structure.EVALUATIONPerformance is evaluated by the Head Football Coach or designee in accordance with district policies, procedures, and applicable agreements.Performance ResponsibilitiesPlan, organize, and conduct football practices, games, meetings, and skill development sessionsInstruct student-athletes in individual and team fundamentals, rules, and strategies of footballPromote good sportsmanship, character development, and adherence to team and school expectationsEnsure appropriate supervision of student-athletes during practices, games, travel, and team activitiesDevelop and enforce team rules consistent with district and athletic department guidelinesMonitor and support the academic eligibility of student-athletesEnsure compliance with district policies and governing athletic association rules and regulationsCommunicate effectively with student-athletes, parents/guardians, administrators, and athletic staffAssist with equipment inventory, uniforms, and coordination of field and facility useSupervise assistant coaches, if applicableEmphasize safety procedures, conditioning, proper technique, and injury preventionPerform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or designeePOSITION SPECIFICATIONSPHYSICAL DEMANDSFrequently required to stand, walk, run, and move about athletic facilities for extended periodsAbility to demonstrate athletic skills and movements specific to the sportAbility to lift, carry, and move athletic equipment and suppliesAbility to respond quickly to emergencies or changing game conditionsStamina to work practices and competitions that may occur during evenings, weekends, and in varying weather conditionsWORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, gyms, fields, tracks, and stadiumsExposure to varying weather conditions for outdoor sportsNoise levels may range from moderate to loud during practices and competitionsInteraction with students, parents/guardians, officials, staff, and community members is frequentSensory AbilitiesAbility to clearly see and track fast-moving objects, athletes, and play situationsAbility to hear instructions, whistle signals, alarms, and verbal communication in noisy environmentsAbility to effectively communicate verbally and non-verbally with student-athletes and staffTEMPERAMENTAbility to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and ability levelsAbility to maintain composure and professionalism in high-stress or emotionally charged situationsAbility to exercise patience, fairness, and sound judgmentAbility to model positive behavior, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct at all timesCOGNITIVE ABILITYAbility to plan, organize, and implement practices and competitionsAbility to understand and apply rules, regulations, and safety guidelinesAbility to make quick decisions in time-sensitive situationsAbility to recognize and appropriately respond to student needs, safety concerns, and emergenciesSpecific SkillsKnowledge of sport-specific rules, techniques, and strategiesAbility to teach, motivate, and evaluate student-athletesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to supervise students and ensure adherence to codes of conductAbility to maintain required records, communicate effectively with families, and collaborate with school personnelLICENSEValid Driver's LicenseThe position specifications described here are the essential functions of this job.
