Quality Lead /1st Shift

Summary of PositionThe Quality Lead works closely with quality technicians on a daily basis by providing training, coordinating workload, and supporting overall department operations. This role also performs quality technician duties as needed. The Quality Lead assists quality management with document review, document control, procedure and program updates, quality data analysis, and safety audits within the quality department.Functions of the PositionDaily Support and Training - Essential (50%) Works directly with quality technicians, providing ongoing training and performance evaluation throughout the year. Fills in for technicians during vacations, absences, or when additional support is required to meet business needs. Promotes a positive and productive work environment. Performs scheduled equipment calibration verifications and maintains inventory of laboratory chemicals and supplies.Documentation and Quality Systems Support - Assists the Quality System Manager and Quality Supervisor with documentation review, document control, procedure and program updates, quality data analysis, and safety audits. Actively participates in SQF activities through learning and training.Nonconformance and Sampling Support - Supports the Quality System Manager and Quality Supervisor in resolving nonconformance issues throughout the facility. Performs environmental and COA sampling and maintains related documentation.Facility-Wide Quality Monitoring - Monitors, documents, and works to improve quality issues across the facility. Collaborates with other departments to resolve concerns that may affect food safety or product quality.Audit and Program Support - Assists with audits as needed and helps maintain programs such as organic certification, environmental monitoring, hold and release, product specifications, and registers.Continuous Improvement and SQF Compliance - Provides proactive recommendations to improve quality and operational efficiency. Performs verifications and internal audits to ensure SQF compliance.Leadership Support in Manager's Absence - In the absence of the Quality Systems Manager, communicates and coordinates activities with shift supervisory staff and the Operations Manager to ensure smooth production transitions.Ongoing Responsibilities* Ensures the manufacturing, distribution, and maintenance of safe, high-quality food by following current Good Manufacturing Practices, allergen and sanitation controls, food defense and food fraud requirements, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory standards.* Maintains and documents preventive controls necessary for food safety and quality.* Immediately reports all food safety and quality issues to management.* Collaborates with team members and shares knowledge across functional areas.* Actively develops technical, functional, and leadership skills.* Complies with all workplace safety policies and procedures.* Supports a strong safety culture by practicing safe behaviors, reporting hazards, and conducting safety observations as assigned.QualificationsEducation, Experience, and Knowledge* Three to five years of experience in a quality role within food manufacturing or a GMP-regulated environment.* High school diploma required.Skills and Competencies* Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred* Strong training and coaching abilities* Ability to follow verbal and written instructions* Strong interpersonal skills* Basic computer proficiencyJob-Specific Requirements* Mandatory overtime may be required based on business needs.JBSS is an Equal Opportunity Employer: All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or status as a protected veteran.
