Job Title: Animal Health TechnicianLocation: Rockville, MDHours/Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hoursCompensation: $20.00-$28.00/hourType: ContractOverview A leading preclinical research organization is seeking an Animal Health Technician to support vivarium operations and preclinical study activities. This hands-on role is ideal for candidates with strong rodent technical experience who are passionate about animal welfare, research support, and working in a fast-paced laboratory environment.ResponsibilitiesProvide technical support within a vivarium setting while ensuring the health and welfare of research animals Handle and restrain rodents in accordance with established protocols Perform animal identification procedures Administer injections using multiple routes, including intravenous (IV) administration Conduct blood collection procedures using various methods, including retro-orbital techniques Perform gavage and oral dosing procedures Administer medications, anesthetics, and analgesics, including dosage calculations Perform euthanasia and organectomy procedures as required Support colony maintenance activities Assess and assist in the treatment of sick animals Collect and record study data using digital calipers and other laboratory tools RequirementsAssociate’s (A.A.) or Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in a science-related field preferred but not required AALAS LAT certification preferred but not required for candidates with advanced Animal Science or related education Previous rodent technical experience preferred Strong proficiency in rodent handling and procedural techniques Experience with injections, blood collection, dosing, and anesthesia procedures preferred Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employerSystem One, and its subsidiaries including Joulé and Mountain Ltd., are leaders in delivering outsourced services and workforce solutions across North America.
