Aquatics Assistant Head CoachReports to: Head CoachLocations: Crozet Park, Albemarle Square, Adventure CentralFLSA: Non-ExemptPosition SummaryThe acac USA Swim Team is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and relationship-driven Assistant Head Coach to support the continued growth and success of our program. This role works directly alongside Head Coach and plays a key part in daily coaching operations, athlete development, program leadership, and administrative management, with a strong emphasis on building a foundation for long-term success across the team.We are looking for a coach who is passionate about developing athletes, teaching skills the right way, staying organized, and helping lead a high-functioning, team-centered program.The acac USA Swim Team is a year-round competitive swim program serving athletes from introductory levels through national-level competition. We believe in a "One Team, One Family" environment that prioritizes both performance and personal development.Key ResponsibilitiesCoaching & Athlete DevelopmentLead and assist with training groups, with a primary focus on developmental and age group athletesDesign and implement practices that emphasize technique, skill progression, and training habitsProvide consistent technical instruction, feedback, and race preparationHelp guide athletes through long-term progression within the programIdentify and support athletes transitioning to higher levels of trainingProgram LeadershipWork closely with the Head Coach to implement training structure and program directionTake ownership of assigned training groups and their developmentAssist in mentoring and supporting assistant coachesMaintain consistency in coaching standards, expectations, and messaging across groupsAdministrative & Operational LeadershipAssist with meet entries, deadlines, and roster managementHelp coordinate practice schedules, group placements, and attendance trackingSupport team communications (emails, updates, reminders to families)Assist in organizing team events, meets, and program logisticsHelp manage and maintain team systems (TeamUnify/SportsEngine or similar platforms)Ensure organizational consistency across groups and help streamline day-to-day operationsTake initiative in identifying ways to improve efficiency within the programCulture & CommunicationBuild strong, positive relationships with swimmers and familiesFoster an environment centered on effort, accountability, and team cultureCommunicate clearly and professionally with athletes, parents, and staffUphold and model the values of the acac USA Swim TeamSummer Swim Team LeadershipLead and support the acac Summer Swim Team (Jefferson Swim League) during the summer monthsAssist with planning and running practices, meets, and daily team operationsProvide consistent coaching, athlete development, and team leadership across all levelsSupport alignment between the summer swim team and the year-round USA Swimming programRequirementsQualifications & Physical DemandsPrevious coaching experience with competitive swimmersMinimum ASCA Level 2 (ASCA Level 3 Preferred)Strong understanding of stroke technique, skill development, and training progressionExperience working with age group swimmers is highly valuedStrong organizational and time management skillsExcellent communication and leadership abilitiesAbility to lead groups independently while collaborating within a coaching staffCurrent USA Swimming certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start)Passion for developing athletes and teaching fundamentalsHighly organized and detail-orientedProactive and dependable with a strong sense of ownershipPositive energy and presence on deckTeam-first mindset with a desire to grow within a programMust be able to swim in both deep and shallow waterMust be able to work in an often warm and humid environment with heightened noiseMust be able to work in both warm water and cool water poolsMust be able to swim confidently with other participants in the poolSchedule & CommitmentIncludes weekday practices (afternoon/evening and some mornings as needed)Regular weekend meet attendance and travel requiredYear-round position aligned with USA Swimming seasonsLocations vary during the year and must be able to work at Crozet Park, Adventure Central and Albemarle Square locationsCompany ExpectationsRead, sign, and abide by the policies included in the Team Member Handbook.Park in team member-designated areas.Club cleanliness is an all-team responsibility; assist whenever necessary in any area of the club to keep the club neat and clean.Assist with Service Days.Assist with acac programs, special events, or activities outside your departmentPromptly return messages.Exhibit a positive attitude at all times.Deliver five-star service to members and guests with friendliness, direct eye contact, and a pleasant demeanor at all timesAffirmative Action/EEO statementacac is an equal opportunity employer that recruits and hires qualified candidates without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, disability, or veteran status.Other dutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the team member for this job.
