Application Instructions Please complete online employment application. Position Description A Construction Craft Laborer is an hourly, non-exempt, skilled trade position. They work as physical laborers on construction projects, performing a wide variety of duties and operate all kinds of hand and power tools. Key DutiesDig trenches.Demo, pour, and place concrete.Eliminate possible safety hazards.Install traffic barricades, cones, and markers.Set braces to support the sides of excavations.Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.Assist other craft workers, including carpenters and operating engineers.Clean and prepare jobsites, including highway work zones and right-of-way.Load, unload, identify, and distribute building materials to the appropriate location according to project plans and specifications. Benefits / Compensation Base rates and benefit packages follow collective bargaining agreements with Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) and include competitive wages, employer sponsored medical, dental, vision insurance, as well as a pension. Journeyman level base rates start at $26.12 per hour, depending on level of experience and where work is performed. Total benefit packages can exceed $48 per hour. Position Requirements General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees. One year or more of construction or concrete experience is required. Experience working on roads, highways, and bridges is preferred. Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by Construction Craft Laborers to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.Work is performed near and around live traffic and requires constant awareness of your surroundings.Frequent work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools.Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.Manual dexterity to hand-carry generators, lumber and other construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.Capable of operating concrete vibrators for extended periods of time.Physical dexterity to pour, grade and finish concrete, involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.Maintain constant alertness to the multiple activities on the construction site, including other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations up to 15 feet in depth, using ladders or crawling, as required.Capable of safely and productively operating a man-lift.Ability to maintain balance while working on watercraft or other surfaces.Sufficient skill and visual acuity, under varying degrees of light, darkness, and weather conditions, to provide direction and flagging for operators of cranes with rated capacities of up to 300 tons. Work Environment. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, commonly found in road construction.Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found in road construction or near equipment, such as, grease, diesel fuel, gasoline, and asphalt.Employee regularly works near heavy equipment, moving machinery, and near traffic.
