May exercise moderate discretion and judgment in the execution and interpretation of experiments, and of data derived.Our lab seeking a candidate with basic laboratory techniques to assist in the processing and biobanking of biological specimens from patients undergoing stem cell transplant for the CHOP Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Research Study with Data Registry/Repository. This position is being supported by a recently funded NIH/NHLBI supported grant that is utilizing these biobank specimens to study biomarkers that may predict the development of lung complications following blood and marrow stem cell transplant. The Specimen Processor and Coordinator will be responsible for efficient and accurate management of biological specimens from patients receiving Bone Marrow Transplants (BMT).Candidates with sample processing and industry experience are encouraged to apply. Specific roles will include:Specimen Coordination:Secondary person for picking up samples from the hospital and clinic.Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and transportation of specimens per established protocols.Sample Processing:Process samples using aseptic technique, centrifugation, Ficoll, aliquoting, and freezing.Making media for processing using aseptic techniqueEnsure the integrity/chain of custody of samples throughout the processing procedure.Maintain records of processing outcomes.Sample Storage:Oversee storage and management of specimens, including cryogenic storage.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of specimen storage using a LIMSWhat You Will DoPerforms research procedures on experimental samples with minimal supervisionFormulates and performs complex lab experiments and analyzes/ reports the dataPerforms tasks that require knowledge of advanced techniques and lab equipmentPerforms advanced calculations and maintains appropriate log and lab notebooksAssists with planning specific research protocols and proceduresAssists in development & troubleshooting of new techniques and ideasMay be required to modify scientific methods and protocols (in conjunction with PI)Checks others' results for completeness and accuracyMay be responsible for training and mentoring new staffMay assist in the preparation of grants journal articles, posters and oral presentationsMay perform routine and non-routine tests / experiments as neededMaintains office, lab area, reagents, supplies and equipmentPerforms routine maintenance on lab equipmentCoordinates schedules of tests & proceduresAttends courses, seminars, and lab meetings to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniquesRecords results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized mannerConducts literary searches as requiredEducation QualificationsHigh School Diploma / GED RequiredBachelor's Degree PreferredExperience QualificationsAt least two (2) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience RequiredAt least three (3) years of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg.
