Real Estate Development and Finance Attorney

We have been engaged by a successful privately held real estate development company to recruit two lawyers with 4-7 years of on-point real estate and construction loan experience. Our client is a full service real estate company with nationwide development. These positions will report to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel one will spend approximately 75% of his/her time working on loan documentation, with the remaining 25% dedicated to general real estate matters, and the other will spend 75% of his/her time on general real estate matters and 25% of his/her time on loan documentation. These roles are ideal for attorneys with a strong background in real estate and related loan transactions, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to manage complex legal processes efficiently while collaborating with various internal teams. The title of these positions (Counsel, Senior Counsel) will depend on the years of on-point real estate and construction loan experience. Responsibilities:Loan Documentation and Closings: Review loan documentation and manage the loan closing process, ensuring all legal requirements are met and transactions are completed efficiently.Loan Focus: Allocate approximately 75% of your time to working on loan documentation, with the remaining 25% dedicated to general real estate matters, such as drafting and reviewing purchase and sale agreements, easements, condominium documents, construction-related licenses, and other development-related documents.Advisory Role: Provide legal counsel on both legal issues and business decisions, offering strategic advice that aligns with the company’s goals and risk management practices.Negotiations: Actively participate in negotiations with lenders, ensuring the company's interests are effectively represented and legal risks are minimized.Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with development, construction, risk management, property management, and accounting departments to support various projects and ensure comprehensive legal coverage.Experience and Qualifications (4-7 years and J.D. from an accredited law school and current active admission to a US State Bar):Transaction Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading transactions, particularly in the context of real estate.Loan Expertise: Extensive experience in closing real estate construction loans is required. Experience with agency loans is preferred but not mandatory.Real Estate Knowledge: Strong background in real estate law, including experience with various types of real estate documents and transactions.Professional Background: Experience working in a larger law firm is preferred but not required.Collaborative Skills: Ability to effectively collaborate with all internal departments, fostering a cooperative work environment.Deadline Management: Ability to meet deadlines and work with a strong sense of urgency; responsiveness and a quick turnaround are essential.Proactive Problem Solving: A successful candidate will be a self-starter who can proactively identify and help solve issues, demonstrating initiative and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.Experience Levels: Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
