The successful candidate will be able to immediately begin work on new projects, establish and document requirements, and work closely with small and large engineering teams to turn ideas into working hardware. Be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible in space and contributes to monumental scientific discoveries.Key ResponsibilitiesCreates mechanical designsPerforms mechanical analysisPerforms detailed tolerance analysisWorks with machine shop and vendors for hardware fabricationPerforms laboratory prototyping, assembly, and testingCommunicates effectively through written reports and presentationsRequired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related fieldMinimum 3 years post-graduation work experienceProficiency in the use of computer-aided structural analysis tools (FEMAP for pre- and post-processing of finite element models; knowledge of NASTRAN for structural analysis)Proficiency in the use of computer-aided design tools (Solid Edge preferred)Demonstrated proficiency with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and providing mechanical tolerance analysisUnderstanding of industry specifications, fabrication techniques, and processesAttention to ISO Quality Assurance standards and other relevant documentation standardsExperience writing technical plans and proceduresAbility to manage vendors or sub-contractors including creating specifications and statement of work (SOW)Track record of successfully working with and collaborating with teams of engineersAbility to communicate clearly with personnel of varying technical and professional backgrounds including building presentation slidesAbility to generate, plan, schedule, and coordinate fabrication of materials, parts, and assemblies through the fabrication cycle according to due dates to meet contractual requirements and program goalsMust be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US personPreferred QualificationsExperience designing for space environmentExperience in thermal and structural/dynamics analysisExperience with mechanism designExperience with structural-thermal-optical-performance (STOP) analysisExperience in mechanical design of optical instruments, thermal vacuum cryogenic testsSalary Range$80,000 - $137,000This range serves as a general guideline and may vary based on factors such as role, level, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
