Surgical Dental Assistant
Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Surgical Dental Assistant to join our growing team. This role is essential in delivering exceptional patient care through outstanding bedside manner and clear, compassionate patient communication. Responsibilities include assisting the dentist during surgical procedures, preparing and maintaining treatment areas, reviewing health histories, and clearly explaining procedures, pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and medication guidance to patients. The role also involves supporting clinical notes and documentation, coordinating professional communication with referring offices, and managing inventory and supplies. The ideal candidate is organized, patient-focused, and committed to the highest standards of professionalism, efficiency, and infection control in a fast-paced clinical environment. The current schedule Tuesday-Thursday from 9am-5pm with some flexibility on start/end times based on patient needs. As the practice grows we plan on working 4 days a week.
Duties
Prepare treatment rooms with sterile instruments and supplies, ensuring aseptic technique is maintained throughout all procedures
Assist the dentist during surgical procedures such as extractions, implants, and other complex gum surgeries with precision and confidence
Manage patient comfort by monitoring vital signs, providing post-operative instructions, and addressing patient concerns effectively
Operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners to obtain accurate diagnostic images while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy
Document medical records accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems, ensuring compliance with medical coding standards and HIPAA guidelines
Support the dental team by managing appointment scheduling, answering patient inquiries as a dental receptionist, and coordinating follow-up care
Maintain strict infection control standards through proper sterilization of instruments and adherence to OSHA guidelines
Experience
Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a surgical or general dentistry setting, preferred but not required
Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to oral health procedures
Hands-on experience with chairside assisting techniques including four-handed dentistry and medical imaging procedures such as X-ray and 3D scanning
Proficiency in using EMR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix for documentation and medical records management
Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, and sterilization processes within a dental clinic environment
Ability to interpret vital signs and assist in emergency situations confidently
Familiarity with HIPAA regulations for safeguarding patient information and maintaining confidentiality
