Description Senior SIEM & Detection Engineer (Contract)Mandatory Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM EDTContract Length: 6 months (extension possible)Work Model: RemoteStart: ASAPThe goal is to leave the environment cleaner, quieter, and more defensible than it is today.Why This Role ExistsWe are stabilizing and improving a large Microsoft-based detection environment as part of a broader Cyber Defense maturity initiative. Before formalizing long-term documentation and governance, we need to clean up detection quality, reduce noise, and improve confidence in our security signals—especially during after-hours coverage.This role is Phase 1 of that effort.What This Person Will DoThis is a Senior, hands-on SIEM / detection engineering role, not an analyst position. Primary Focus Areas Tune and rationalize alerts in Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Defender XDRReduce false positives and alert fatigueImprove signal quality and detection confidenceIdentify redundant, outdated, or low-value detectionsValidate detections against real telemetry and execution contextProvide engineer-level coverage during the 3–11 PM EDT shiftCapture baseline detection logic and data dependencies as part of cleanup workCore Technical Requirements (Must Have)Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft SentinelKQL authoring and optimizationAnalytic rule tuningExperience with Microsoft Defender XDRAlert interpretation and correlation This Person Must Also Have Proven background in SIEM alert tuning and detection engineeringAbility to work independently and make judgment calls on detection valueComfortable operating in a live SOC environment during off-hours Nice To Have's Experience in regulated or audit-heavy environmentsFamiliarity with ServiceNow or Jira-based intake/work trackingExperience working with multiple SIEM instances (e.g., security + fraud)Exposure to Microsoft Security Copilot (not required)Measurable reduction in alert volume and noiseImproved confidence in high-priority detectionsClear identification of detection gaps and weak signalsCleaner baseline ready for formal documentation and lifecycle governanceStrong after-hours engineering coverageThis is a hands-on engineering role, not advisorySuccess is measured by outcomes, not ticket volumeThis role feeds a larger, well-defined roadmap—work done here will matter Experience Level Expert Level Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Appleton, WI. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $70.00/hr.
