Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Position overviewWe are looking for a detail-oriented and analytically minded Manufacturing Engineering Intern to support process documentation and continuous improvement efforts on the production floor. The intern will take ownership of rebuilding Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from the ground up, working directly with operators and engineers to identify gaps, resolve inconsistencies, and produce clear, reliable work instructions. This role sits at the intersection of manufacturing engineering, quality systems, and process improvement.Key responsibilitiesReview, revise, and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and visual work instructions across production processes, addressing outdated specifications, missing torque values, and undefined assembly stepsCollaborate with operators and manufacturing engineers to capture tribal knowledge and translate it into accurate, standardized documentationLeverage AI-assisted tools to accelerate the creation of work instructions and improve documentation quality and consistencyEvaluate existing processes for error-proofing opportunities, identifying improvements to tooling, fixturing, packaging, or workstation layoutApply lean manufacturing principles to assess whether process changes - such as rack redesigns or standard packaging solutions - can reduce cycle time or minimize variabilityPartner cross-functionally with quality, engineering, and production teams to validate documentation accuracy and drive sign-offQualificationsCurrently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related fieldFamiliarity with lean manufacturing principles and quality systems (e.g., ISO, PFMEA, or similar) is preferredStrong written communication skills with the ability to translate complex processes into clear, concise instructionsAnalytical mindset with a demonstrated ability to identify problems and propose practical solutionsComfortable working in a production floor environment and engaging directly with operators and technical staffProficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with documentation or PLM software is a plusWhat you will gainHands-on experience in process engineering and manufacturing documentation within a production environmentPractical exposure to lean manufacturing methodologies and quality systemsExperience applying AI tools in an industrial setting to modernize documentation workflowsCross-functional collaboration skills working alongside engineering, quality, and operations teamsA portfolio of completed SOPs and process improvements with measurable impact on production reliability
