Quality Technician (Night Shift)
Brief DescriptionDescriptionBASIC FUNCTIONUnder general supervision, employees will monitor daily production quality, perform material and special product testing, document inspection and testing results, and control test result files and inventory of retention samples for knowledge preservation.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesEnsure finished product continuously meets or exceeds product specifications. Evaluate retained samples and audit production before release to warehouseIdentify and quarantine nonconforming product. Inspect/test and review product on hold and ensure proper disposition of product. Coordinate rework of nonconforming product.Perform incoming inspection on subcontracted product and returned goods. Audit quality of product in stock as needed.Collect and analyze samples of raw materials and finished products per documented procedures and work instructions. Record and maintain test results.Review schedule and ensure all proper quality forms and control samples are available to the Operators and Packers. In case of jobs which do not run frequently, leave a sample of the part for identification.Provide assistance and support to Operators and Packers as needed. Ensure adequate support during start-ups and while running critical jobs. Train packers in relation to finish product quality.Maintain inspection records. Report discrepancies and unusual trends to Quality Supervisor/Manager.Maintain part weight and sheet thickness database. Look for unusual trends and report to Quality Supervisor/Manager.Ensure collection of retention samples during production runs, and storage for knowledge preservation.Evaluate control charts against run rules and identify out of control conditions. Use SPC software.Conduct process audits and report non-compliancesOther job responsibilities as assigned by Quality Supervisor/ManagerOtherWork in accordance with all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety and legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.Maintain tidy and organized quality lab.Material TestingPerform material qualification tests for virgin material and purchased regrind.Perform incoming inspection and testing on material received from various suppliers. Identify status of material. Appropriately tag approved material.Record and maintain test results.Identify and quarantine nonconforming material. Downgrade and tag appropriately, if applicable.Generate nonconformance report and coordinate with purchasing on return of nonconforming material.Maintain records of quantity of purchased regrind received from various vendors.Monitor bulk density and melt flow index of internal regrind. Coordinate with manufacturing to monitor blends and traceability information on various machines.Maintain records for all material vendors and assist in their evaluation and qualification.Maintain inventory of raw material samples.RequirementsJob RequirementRequired Knowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesMust have functional knowledge of standard lab testing equipment.Must be detailed and multitask oriented.Must have clear and concise communication skills.General knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software.EducationQUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma.ExperienceMinimum Two years experience in quality control (preferably extrusion and/or thermoforming).WORK ENVIRONMENT – HOURLY POSITIONSOur manufacturing plant is not environmentally controlled. Changes in humidity and temperature occur throughout the year.
