Technical Support Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Support Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing on the operation, maintenance, and incident response for a High-Performance Computing (HPC) platform tailored to meet the needs of computational scientists in Research & Development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS DevOps practices, with extensive experience with AWS services, infrastructure as code, software quality assurance (SQA), and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. As a Technical Support Engineer, you will be crucial in deploying and maintaining the infrastructure supporting our cutting-edge research initiatives. You will collaborate closely with platform engineers and computational scientists to ensure our platform is robust, scalable, and capable of handling complex computational workloads. Key Responsibilities:Deploy and maintain scalable and reliable high-performance computing environments on AWS.Use monitoring and observability tools to identify and respond to incidents impacting platform availability and performance.Develop and manage infrastructure as code using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.Automate deployment pipelines and improve CI/CD processes using GitLab CI/CD.Monitor and optimize platform performance, ensuring reliability and scalability.Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, deployment, and application performance.Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.Required Skills:AWS: Deep understanding of AWS services and best practices for building scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud environments, and how Transit Gateway is used to connect VPCs with on-premises networks.DevOps: Proven experience with DevOps practices, including infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible), continuous integration, and continuous deployment (GitLab CI/CD).Linux: Strong proficiency and familiarity with Linux computing environments and use of the bash shell.Version Control: Proficiency with Git and experience managing code repositories and branching strategies.Containerization: Proficiency with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like KubernetesDesired Qualifications:Experience: 3+ years working in DevOps or software engineering, with a track record ofsuccessfully delivering features for complex projects.Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, as well as independently when required.Preferred Skills (Nice to have):Knowledge of security best practices in cloud environments and experience implementing them.Familiarity with programming languages and tools relevant to scientific research and high-performance computing, such Familiarity with high performance computing (HPC) environments and components, such as batch schedulers and workflow managers.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues in distributed systems.
