Start/End Dates: May 18th, 2026 - October 2nd, 2026 (20 weeks)Compensation: $688 per weekApplication Due: March 1st, 2026The Latino Heritage Internship Program seeks to engage young professionals in natural resource careers. Applicants must meet the following requirements:Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.Be between the ages of 18 - 30 years or up to 35 years if a veteran.Be willing to undergo a background check upon hiring.Have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.Note: A personal vehicle is required for this position.Position Description:Prospective Intern will be working under the Interpretation and Education Division of Biscayne National Park. The project will fall into 3 separate projects:Digital Engagement: The intern will assist with being a creative source to reach a wider audience during their term with BISC.Interpretation/ Education: They will be expected to develop a program either for the education or interpretive subsets of the division in which they will need to be able to present in both English and Spanish. They will receive interpretive NPS official training and will learn how to conduct formal educative programming.Community Planning:The Intern will host an outreach event in the community representing BISC. Biscayne has an established community program once a month in the park which is titled "Park After Dark" in which we train and mentor our Rangers and Interns to develop a theme and take ownership of, for that month.Responsibilities:Assist social media team in developing trendy and informative content that aligns with NPS standards and regulations.Develop educational and interpretative programsTranslate content into Spanish and facilitate programs in English and Spanish.Host a community outreach eventQualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentAdaptability to work with youth ages 5-18 and AdultsCompetency in the development of content for social networking sitesInterest in community relations and Conservation/ Marine Science/ Environmental ScienceMust be able to lift 50lbsFluency in English and SpanishAbility to swimInterns in this program will receive 800 hours towards Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority. See below on information about:Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position. The applicant must apply to a PLC-eligible position advertised on USAJobs.gov and selected off a non-competitive certificate of eligibility.
