Data Architect / AnalystOnsite in Burbank CA9 Months Contract (W2)SummarySeeking a Senior level Data Analyst/Data Architect to support a critical enterprise data migration initiative, transitioning our data platform from Microsoft SQL Server to Snowflake. This resource will design scalable data architectures, build robust migration pipelines, and enable modern self-service analytics through Tableau and Power BI. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in cloud data warehousing, ETL/ELT engineering, and business intelligence.ResponsibilitiesMigration Architecture & DesignLead end-to-end source-to-target mapping design for the SQL Server to Snowflake migration, including schema analysis, data profiling, and transformation logic documentationArchitect Snowflake environments including database/schema structures, virtual warehouses, role-based access control (RBAC), and resource monitorsDesign and document data flow diagrams, lineage maps, and migration runbooks to ensure traceability and auditability throughout the migration lifecycleDefine standards for naming conventions, data types, partitioning strategies, clustering keys, and time-travel/fail-safe policies in SnowflakeETL/ELT Development & ScriptingWrite and optimize complex T-SQL scripts to extract and transform data from SQL Server sources for ingestion into SnowflakeDevelop Snowflake SQL scripts, stored procedures, tasks, streams, and dynamic tables to implement transformation logic and incremental load patternsBuild and maintain ELT pipelines leveraging tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, or Informatica for automated data movementImplement data validation and reconciliation scripts to verify source vs. target row counts, aggregates, and business rules post-migrationTune query performance in Snowflake through execution plan analysis, clustering optimization, and materialized view strategiesData Modeling & GovernanceDesign and maintain dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas), OBT structures, and data vault patterns appropriate for Snowflake's architectureCollaborate with data stewards and business stakeholders to define data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata standardsEstablish data quality frameworks and implement automated profiling, anomaly detection, and SLA monitoringBI Reporting & VisualizationDesign and develop Tableau dashboards and published data sources connected to Snowflake, optimizing live and extract connections for performanceBuild Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards with DAX measures, row-level security, and deployment pipelinesTranslate business requirements into semantic layer designs (e.g., Tableau Published Data Sources, Power BI datasets) to enable self-service analyticsCollaborate with analysts and business users to validate reporting outputs against source systems and ensure data accuracyStakeholder Collaboration & DocumentationPartner with data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence teams to ensure seamless handoffs and alignment throughout the migration lifecycleProduce comprehensive technical documentation including mapping specifications, architecture decision records (ADRs), and operational runbooksPresent migration status, risks, and architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders including senior leadershipRequired Skills/Experience10 years minimum of relevant work experienceSQL Server, Tableau and Power BIUnderstand how integrations work (how data is integrated through ETL and API)Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, SSMS, SSIS, and performance tuningHands-on experience with Snowflake, including data loading (Snowpipe, COPY INTO), Snowflake SQL, tasks, streams, and administrationProven experience designing and executing source-to-target data mapping documentation for large-scale migration projectsStrong proficiency in Tableau (Desktop, Server/Online) including advanced calculations, LOD expressions, and performance optimizationExperience with Power BI including Power Query (M), DAX, data modeling, and Report Server or Power BI Service deploymentFamiliarity with ETL/ELT orchestration tools (Azure Data Factory, dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, or equivalent)Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, data warehousing principles, and data lake architecturesStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and present to diverse audiencesEducationBS required in Computer Science or EngineeringData certifications are nice to haveThe estimated pay range for this position is USD $70.00/hr - USD $83.00/hr.
