Inspector (Offshore Well Operations & Safety)

Job Title Duties Help These positions are located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Gulf of America OCS Region, District Field Operations, Houma District/Lafayette District/Lake Charles District/Lake Jackson District/New Orleans District, Well Operations Section, Well Operations Inspection Unit, duty stationed in Houma, LA, Lake Charles, LA, Lafayette, LA, Jefferson, LA, or Angleton, TX. At the full performance level (GS-11) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following: Perform well-operation inspections of oil and gas facilities to ensure safety of operations and personnel. Identify deficiencies or violations of environmental and safety laws and regulations. Work with senior Inspectors in conducting investigation of accidents associated with offshore drilling, work-over/completion, or other related operations. Plan and schedule inspections of routine operations or designated portion or more complex operations. Write reports of operations findings, and Letters of Deficiency. Telework: The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement has determined that the duties of these positions are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster. Travel: You may be expected to travel 1-5 nights per month. Medical Requirements: Incumbent must be able to pass a pre-employment physical as per the BSEE Medical Standards. Work Environment: The work environment contains elements of exposure to potentially dangerous situations involving field visits to oil, gas, Sulphur, and other mineral facilities in the Gulf of America. The employee may work at great heights on large pieces of equipment and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions. The employee wears hardhats, safety glasses, safety-toe shoes, hearing protection, selected uniforms for the environment and takes other various safety precautions. Travel to and from the designated airport or land-based locations is by government motor vehicle. Offshore travel is by contracted helicopter, and/or lessee furnished boat. Bargaining Unit: This position is included in a bargaining unit. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), Local 2798, is the exclusive representative of all employees in this bargaining unit. Salary Range Information (Per Annum): First time hires to the federal government typically start at the beginning salary in the range for their respective grade level. GS-07: $58,193 - $75,653 GS-09: $71,181 - $92,541 GS-11: $86,123 - $111,966 This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
