Manager of Industrial Pretreatment & Laboratory - Water Reclamation
The City of Solon has an opening for the full-time position of Manager of Industrial Pretreatment & Laboratory in the Water Reclamation Department. Job SummaryOversees and coordinates Industrial Pretreatment and Laboratory operations for the City's Water Reclamation Department. This role combines technical expertise, leadership, and regulatory oversight to ensure efficient wastewater treatment operations and full compliance with environmental standards.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister and maintain the Industrial Pretreatment Program in compliance with federal, state, and local regulationsMonitor facility compliance with NPDES permit requirements and report issuesSupervise laboratory staff and oversee wastewater, effluent, and biosolids analysisConduct inspections of industrial and commercial facilities, including unannounced visitsManage industrial surcharge program, reporting, and invoicingCoordinate testing with external labs and ensure adherence to Good Laboratory PracticesInvestigate process upsets, system issues, and recommend corrective actionsOversee purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of lab and pretreatment equipmentPrepare reports for city officials and regulatory agenciesTrain, supervise, and evaluate staff; provide technical guidanceRespond to emergencies (24/7 on-call) and public inquiriesQualificationsBachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible water reclamation experienceKnowledge of wastewater treatment processes, lab analysis, and environmental regulationsCertifications (Required or Obtainable)Ohio EPA Class III Wastewater CertificationClass I Wastewater Laboratory Analyst CertificationValid Ohio driver's licenseConfined space entry and forklift certificationSkills & AbilitiesStrong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to interpret chemical/biological data and regulatory requirementsEffective communication with staff, officials, and the publicAbility to work in demanding environments and respond quickly to emergenciesWork Environment & Physical DemandsWork involves both office and field settings, including exposure to weather, machinery, chemicals, and confined spaces. Requires physical activity such as lifting (up to 70 lbs), climbing, and prolonged standing.Additional RequirementsOn-call availability with ability to respond within 60 minutesParticipation in community outreach and city committees as neededThis position offers a starting range of $71,210.14 - $85,452.17. City benefits include medical, prescription, dental, and vision.
