SCADA Technician

The SCADA Technician is responsible for the detailed design, fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and commissioning of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and associated control/communication systems used in natural gas regulator stations and related infrastructure. This role supports safe, reliable gas system operations through effective automation, data acquisition, and control system integration.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Engineering SupportDevelop control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and schematics for RTU and PLC-based systems Select appropriate instrumentation, communication devices, and control hardware for various applications Develop I/O lists, control narratives, loop diagrams, cause-and-effect logic, etcEnsure designs comply with applicable industry standards, client specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., CFR 192, PSC 255, etc.) Panel Fabrication & AssemblyFabricate, assemble, and wire RTU/PLC control panels, including: Power distribution components and UPSTerminal blocks, relays, and I/O modules Communication devices (radios, modems, cellular gateways) Perform panel layout, drilling, mounting, soldering, welding, and labeling Conduct quality checks and point-to-point verification Installation & IntegrationInstall RTU/PLC systems at a variety of facilities Perform field wiring to instrumentation such as (but not limited to): Pressure transmitters Flow meters Temperature sensors Valve actuators Integrate SCADA communications via radio, cellular, fiber, or Ethernet networks Coordinate with operations and engineering teams during installations as neededProgramming & ConfigurationConfigure RTUs and PLCs using industry-standard platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Emerson, etc.) Develop and modify ladder logic, function block, or structured text programs Configure HMI/SCADA interfaces and tag databases Set up communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, OPC, etc.) Testing & CommissioningPerform factory acceptance testing (FAT) and/or site acceptance testing (SAT) Commission new and upgraded regulator station control systems Validate I/O signals, alarm functions, and control sequences Troubleshoot and resolve system issues during startup Maintenance & TroubleshootingDiagnose and repair issues with RTUs, PLCs, instrumentation, and communication systems Perform system upgrades, firmware updates, and preventative maintenance Provide on-call or emergency support as required Documentation & ComplianceMaintain accurate as-built drawings, configuration files, and documentation Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures Support audits and regulatory inspections as needed Salary Range: $80,000 - $160,000 per yerThe specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.RequirementsEducation & ExperienceAssociate's degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience) AND/OR3+ years of experience with SCADA, RTU, and PLC systems (natural gas or utility industry strongly preferred) Technical SkillsExperience with PLC/RTU platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Emerson ROC, Schneider) Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP, etc.) Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams Hands-on experience with panel fabrication, wiring, and field instrumentation Familiarity with natural gas utility regulator station equipment and operations is required Additional SkillsStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently in field environments Good communication and documentation skills Proficiency with standard computer software and SCADA/HMI systems Work Environment & RequirementsField-based role with travel to natural gas facilities and job sites as neededAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and uncertain hoursMay require lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces Valid driver's license required Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, API, AGA) OSHA safety training (e.g., 10-hour or 30-hour) Experience with radio and telemetry systems used in utility networks  BenefitsBody, mind, and wallet—LaBella's benefits support a holistic approach to your health and wellness, creating the foundation for physical, mental, and financial well-being.
